preseasons in sports are something that need to go. Read the facts on why its really not important and how it ruins the season for many teams.
In 2003, the Atlanta Falcons star QB Mike Vick got an injury in the preseason which sidelines him for the first 14 games. A team many picked to make the super bowl season is now over because of a preseason game.
In 2004, the New England Patriots had a 1-3 record in the preseason. The Philadelphia Eagles had a 1-3 record in the preseason. In the end these were the best two teams who faced in the super bowl. So the preseason didn’t matter.
In 2005, the Indianapolis Colts were 0-4 in the preseason. Right now they are the only undefeated team left in the NFL with a 6-0 record. So the preseason did not matter.
My point here is why there is a preseason in the NFL or any sport for that matter. Many teams’ seasons are ruined by getting injured in games that don’t matter. Even the fans don’t want to see these games. After the first quarter, its all 2nd and 3rd sting players who we’ve never herd of. Who wants to see Jim Sorgi tot Aaron Morehead when we can see Manning to Harrison for the 86th time which broke the record last night.
Why not extend the regular season which actually matters, especially in football to make it fairer. The strength of schedule varies greatly. We’ve got New England playing amazing and struggling to a 3-3 record while the Colts would have a better chance of loosing to USC. Make a 20 or 21 game season so we can teams that deserve to be in, not the teams that are there because Mike Vick got injures.
