Is Religion Relevant For You and Me – Today?

Many have an ill-perceived concept that religion is somehow ”outdated.” They feel that religion belongs to former centuries. In our fast-paced society where news is cast around the world in a matter of mere minutes the very concept of principles being valid for centuries or even millennia is rather ”unbelievable.”

Nothing could be further from the truth!

Concepts that are unique today may very well be considered more or less popular next year but the validity you and I attribute to each question we face is either right or wrong. When decided upon it becomes ”established fact”, for ourselves anyway.

Consider this: IF you had to re-evaluate every concept of your life each day you rise what would you achieve that day? Probably nothing at all. Let's do the math: one day consists of 86.400 seconds. One third (more or less) is spent sleeping but for almost 60.000 seconds you are awake each single day. Let's suppose you only think, study, meditate, consider and learn for nearly one tenth of your waking day. That amounts to roughly 5.000 seconds [to put things into round numbers for easy calculation :-)]. In one year this amounts to just over 1.8 million seconds of mental achievements.

Remember the question I asked: IF you had to re-evaluate every concept of your life each day you rise what would you achieve that day? You only have 86.400 seconds, so even IF you dropped sleep for one full day you would still be just over 1.7 million seconds short! And that figure is ONLY in consideration to one year of thinking. Most of us study, read and learn much more than this and have done so for numerous years.

Established fact, however personal or relevant to others, can hardly be identical to larger groups of people, but it certainly does make life easier for each of us once established. Carpe diem – seize the day. Make the most of it, and you will begin to succeed more once your goals and ideas are in place.

Next Blog will be: Dynamic Thinking - don't think you already know what that is!

Very thoughtful. That said I cant get away from the fact that with many people, including family, friends and society following different beliefs, you feel lost. You are like a fish out of water, with people of faiths different than yours. I am a Hindu, but even for a Hindu putting into practice that the Creator is only ONE for all, and all religions are only diverse ways of looking at it is difficult. For I am basically a social being and conditioned in one set of beliefs and practices. I am conditioned to enjoy that; living with others is adjustment.
And as you rightly pointed out, if one were to re-evalutate and adjust every day, it is almost impossible to practice.
The only pragmatic way seems to be to stick to your flock, while practicing the Hindu concept of 'Sarve Janaha sukhino bhavandu" Wish all people live happily!
