Faith Heals

Posted on May 12, 2008 at 01:39 AM by Shem C. Tayanes Jr. | Comments (0)

Does faith heal? Over the centuries, faith and prayer have healed many people. The ancients believed in their priest and herbs. Some ascribe healing to the power of God, other explain it by the power of belief in producing a placebo effect. Still others give credit to their healing in the knowledge of their physician and the drugs they prescribe. The healing of any patient's condition is a combination of faith in the Healer God, faith in the efficacy of the treatment and faith of their physicians.

What does Web 2.0 have to do with Organ Donations and Heart Transplants. Career Change A Ministry Opportunity

Career Change Opportunities

Changing careers has been a part of the American job scene throughout our history. When my son graduated from high school, we were told he would most likely have seven different careers over his working years.

I have long believed churches could do far more than ask people to tithe a portion of their income. Why not help people earn an income to tithe from? Minister to people by helping them discover career opportunities.

A Foreclosure Is A Ministry Opportunity

By Chaplain Paul Slater

Foreclosures are increasing throughout the country as the mortgage industry is readjusting to the financial realities of today's real estate market.

But how can a foreclosure be a ministry opportunity? Having gone through a foreclosure a few years ago, I can tell you from personal painful experience that my wife and I felt very alone throughout the entire foreclosure process.

I believe that a church can do far more in ministering to those going through the painful and shameful foreclosure experience.

Becoming A Life Coach Had A Familiar Ring To It

by Chaplain Paul Slater

The suggestion was to offer life coach courses to those wanting to improve life skills or to change careers.

While I am presently taking life coaching training in order to become a life coach, it seems many have been life coaches without the life coach designation.

Life coaching as a career has exploded yet the function of life coaching is what pastors do in fulfilling their calling to disciple people.

Understanding Heart Disease Is Ministry

Understanding Heart Disease Can Provide Ministry Opportunities

February is American Heart Month, a fact that just about escaped me. Because heart disease is the leading cause of death in the United States, and is one of major causes of disability, understanding heart disease should more of a priority for churches.

Almost 700,000 people die of heart disease in the United States annually, which amounts to nearly 29% of all U.S. deaths. Some of those are people in our congregations.

As those thinking of changing careers research ministry opportunities, any career field is a possible ministry opportunity.

Don't Accept Any Abuse!

There is an old saying:
"Come, work for the Lord. The work is hard, the hours long and the pay is low. But the retirement benefits are out of this world."

Far too many denominations have taken these words quite literally. Sects and cults have even driven entire work camps "for the Lord." Much like before the Reformation, priesthoods have been considered as a special group of people with a type of authority that scripture in no way sanctions...

I work in health care is the answer I give to the question "So, what do you do for a living?"

The main reason to say I am employed in health care is simply because I am. Of course people assume it is in a medical capacity so my answer usually prompts another question as to what my health care vocation is.

Health care employment is a huge vocational tent with hundreds of medical related vocational choices.

Unique Condominium Open House Ministry Opportunity

I was surprised because we knew the San Diego Condominium market is stagnant, according to the news. But when my wife said, "Look, A condo open house. Let's check it out," I immediately pulled to the curb in front of the newly remodeled condominium project.

Is the Bible Full of Errors?

Some further thoughts on the Trustworthiness of the Bible:
I have heard students say that they are leaning toward the non-verbal plenary position (meaning that one believes all the Bible is inspired, BUT ONLY as to its concepts—NOT ALL the words—meaning that it might contain historical errors). The supposed “errors are usually thought to be due to the fact that “man wrote the book”, which implies that errors must be there…Keep in mind, that a Bible with errors is not a book you can trust.  It matters NOT that man wrote down the words of the Bible IF GOD is in charge of keeping them perfectly accurate.

I often use the theme of Three Questions In Facing The Storms of Life and Easter Sunday allows me to do so again.

What does the resurrection of Jesus teach us about becoming overcomers in the tragedies of life?
