There are many common types of telescopes. It is to be noted that the term of "telescope" has been deemed a very broad and extensive topic. The purpose and intent of telescopes is to implement the use of a form of radiation that is referred to as "electromagnetic", in order to view objects more closely so that they can be studied for one purpose or another.
In its most basic form, the optical telescope is the most common type of telescope. Naturally, these types increase the size of objects as well as any brightness that is associated with those objects. These types are the most common when it comes to scientific studies. Monoculars, lenses on cameras, binoculars, and even glasses that are used for spy cases and investigative research are some examples of optical telescopes.
Radio telescope is another of the many types of telescopes that can be found. Unlike basic models, these work as a radio antennae that can observe radio waves in many different directions. Scientists and scientific corporations around the world implement the use of these telescopes to study different types of radiation so that more can be learned about it. In many cases, these types of telescopes have been implemented in order for researchers to determine if there is extraterrestrial life.
You can find one of such telescopes in the Arecibo Observatory, and even in the program which is referred to as "SETI". These telescopes are often constructed out of unique materials, such as wire mesh that is conductive, and they often resemble basic satellites.
In most cases, these are not stand alone units that can function in the manner that is most appropriate for a study. When a corporation implements the use of these telescopes, they often group them together for a better coverage area.
The next type of telescope is the one that implements the use of gamma ray and x-ray technology. Generally, this telescope type will be found hovering above the Earth, in our orbit. They are used to study various components of the atmosphere, including weather and other conditions.
These telescopes are implemented in this area because of the fact that the atmospheric conditions are part of what is referred to as "electromagnetic spectrum". In order to read the collective data that is present in this spectrum, special technology has to be used in order to break it down so that it is understood thoroughly by people. Solar telescopes, binoculars, and even telephoto lens are other common types of telescopes.
