We have a dalmation mix that has always been active. He is now 10 and the old dog of the family.
Our dalmation mix has been a part of the family for 10 years. At 6 weeks old he was ours. What a cute puppy. He has been energetic and playful for years.
He loves to go on hikes in the mountains and seems happiest of all on a hike. He survived our black lab. As she got older and couldn't hike any more we had to leave her home and just take him. It was sad but she seemed ok.
It's now his turn. Oh, the spirit is willing. Sadly, the legs are not. His back legs are now giving out. Many times he has to use his front paws to pull himslef along.
Our last hike was cut short. He kept stopping on trail to lay down. He just couldn't make the walk.
Can we leave this dog at home and take our other dog only next time we hike? I don't think so. I can only imagine the sad look in his eyes.
I think for a while it'll be easy walks and hikes for us.
It's sad to be an old dog.
