The Essential Tips for Washing Your Dog

A dog is often considered a man's best friend. So intense is the relationship that at times we tend to pay more attention to our pet than to our family members. This includes our dog's health and hygiene. We would now discuss the basic tips for washing your dog.

Before giving your dog a hearty shower, you need to understand that a dog does not like to be washed. Nonetheless, if you wish to start a healthy relationship, you need to take good care of your pet. Before starting out, you need to dress appropriately. Wear a bathing suit for your dog can tend to get slippery. At the same time, make sure the floor is lined with a rubber mat so that the dog does not slide while being washed.

For a bath, it is highly recommended that you use a booster bath as it is equipped with a rubber bottom. It is also light and easy to transport. Likewise, it is easy for your back and you needn't lean back all the time. A bathing tub or a normal sink can also do a great job.

Comforting your dog with soothing tones is a must if you wish to have a peaceful bath. Your dog can easily get stressed and irritated at the mere prospect of a through scrub. He may even run away. To avoid water from seeping into the dog's ear, cover them with a piece of dry cotton.

Choose a dog shampoo and never wash your dog's face with it. Clean it with a moist cloth as a dog's face is very sensitive. Avoid human shampoo which scrubbing your pet clean. Always bathe your dog in lukewarm water and dry the pet with a piece of clean towel.

You can also use a hand dryer. While doing so, make sure you do not burn his pelt. Thereafter you can remove the loose pelt with a wide toothed comb.

How often can I bath my dog. I was told by one vet once a year, but she is an indoor dog. Then someone else told me once a week. I don't know so if you can tell me.
