French Door Window Treatments

French Door Window Treatments

If you already have French doors in your home, you know how elegant and beautiful they can be. They're a wonderful way to open up a room and bring extra light into it. It can make the room you put them in one of the most attractive in your home. French door window treatments are very important, because there are many different types and styles available; they are very versatile. They can be very plain, but they don't have to be. If you have just a little bit of imagination, you can find a French door window treatment that will suit both you and the room you want to change.

When you first think about window treatments for your French doors, the first thing you need to think about is orientation. If the room has a western or southern exposure, there will be a lot more light than there will be with a northern or eastern exposure. While a lot of light is good thing, keep in mind that you'll have more light with French doors than you do with windows. Putting window treatments in your French doors can help with this. If you experiment a little, you'll get a more natural flow of light into the room than you did before.

If you'll need to control light as part of the use of your French door window treatment, think about nixing curtains. If there's a lot of light coming in, you'll need very thick curtains, which can make the room seem very heavy and stifling. Blinds or shutters in general are a better idea and you can control the light that comes into the room simply by opening or closing them. If you want an airy appearance, paint the blinds white or pastel. This will make the room feel larger.

French doors usually do well in making room feel airy and light. You can emphasize this by using curtains of chiffon or lace; these will give you privacy but still let light in. You'll also find that the chiffon or lace will brighten up the room and make it more cheerful. Sheer curtains like this can both control light and let it in; they also have a more airy feel than you would create with shutters of wood or plastic.

French doors already are an excellent touch for your home; window treatments will only improve them and make your home even more attractive!
