They're large, they're bulky, and they're too faded to sell or even give away. With "no burn" laws in your area, you can't even get rid of them that way. The only option you have will probably be to stuff them into garbage bags and send them to the landfill, but you hate to do that. You wish you had purchased more eco-friendly window treatments when you got them, but it's too late for that. All you can do is to make sure that the new window treatments you purchase are greener than the old ones were.

Can You Make Life Easier With A Hot Tub Cover Lifter?

Posted on Oct 3, 2008 at 09:42 AM by Christopher Smith | Comments (0)

There are many reasons to cover your hot tub, many of which are health related. The cover is great for holding the heat in and and debris out. In addition, the amount of electricity needed to keep the water heated is reduced which reduces your costs, and this way the cover eventually pays for itself. The risk of children or pets falling into the hot tub is reduced when a cover is properly used. And the list goes on. In fact, the only drawback to a hot tub cover is lifting it off of the tub.

The original purchased hot tub cover generally weighs between 20 and 30 pounds. Insulation within the cover collects moisture over time as it sits over the spa. This can increase the weight to close to 100 pounds. This makes it difficult to remove, especially if you're attempting to remove it alone. Oftentimes, hot tub owners opt to uncover part of the tub and leave the rest covered so they don't have to pick up the full weight of the cover. For those who wish to reclaim the use of the rest of their spa, hot tub cover lifters are available. A cover lifter assists you with the removal and storage of the spa cover.

Cleaning Your Carpets with Detergents

The first thing that most people think about using for cleaning is good old soap and water. Not every soap is right to use on a carpet, though. Once the detergent is on the carpet, you activate it by sprinkling water on the carpet. These detergents work by absorbing the dirt that's buried deep in the carpet fibers. Posted on Apr 10, 2008 at 03:26 PM by Kate Neville | Comments (0)

Another bonus of using a duvet cover king size is that it's easy to change the look of your bed without spending a lot. Just put a different duvet cover and some different pillow shams on (they often come in sets), and you'll have a whole new look. So, if you're thinking about a duvet cover or comforter cover king for your bed, here's what to look for.

Harbor Breeze Ceiling Fans - For Your Home

Posted on Mar 10, 2008 at 12:38 PM by Rob Bernabe | Comments (0)

Ceiling fans provide both comfort and style to any room of your home. If you want a ceiling fan that will operate quietly and reliably, then you must pay more money when you buy the fan. Ceiling fans come in different sizes, and it is important to keep in mind depending upon the size of the room you are trying to cool. If the room you are trying to cool is larger, always get a ceiling fan that has a blade span which is greater than 50 inches.

The way a ceiling fan works is simple. When we perspire, the heat from our bodies is transferred to the liquid perspiration on the surface of our skin. When a breeze blows across our skin, this evaporates the liquid perspiration. As the liquid sweat turns into water vapor, it takes the heat from the body into the air. This is how you feel cool.

Saving Energy and Keeping Hot Tubs Clean With a Hot Tub Cover

Posted on Feb 15, 2008 at 12:01 PM by Christopher Smith | Comments (0)

If you have a hot tub you probably already know the importance of a hot tub cover, as well as how important it is for you to get a cover that fits. The cover helps to keep the heat in to conserve energy and to keep the dirt out of the tub. Fallen leaves and other greenery may be getting in your water and making it dirty, but a hot tub cover can help to prevent this when properly used.

The cover that you purchase has to fit correctly and have no spaces that are going to let dirt in. If there are spaces that are not completely covered you won't be preventing heat from escaping and the water may still get dirty. If you need to go to the dealer to get a cover you should take pictures and measurements (which should be from every possible angle to make sure you don't miss anything) to help you get the exact size that you need.

Japanese Bathtubs: A Tradition For The Future

Posted on Feb 3, 2008 at 08:36 PM by Christopher Smith

A Japanese bathtub, sometimes called an Ofuro, is usually around twice the size of a standard American style bathtub. It is deeper and often rounder, to allow the bather to sit comfortably with their knees bent. The water, which is kept at a high temperature, is up to the bather's chest. This position is said to aid relaxation and meditation, which makes for a very therapeutic bathing experience.

The Japanese bathtub is rapidly gaining popularity throughout the world. As people become more interested in personal wellbeing and healthy living through homeopathy and natural remedies, the Japanese style of bathing compliments these ideas perfectly. The hot water is said to stimulate blood circulation and have positive effects on the overall health of body and mind.

Electric Fireplaces = Warmth + Beauty

Posted on Feb 3, 2008 at 03:04 PM by Sam Streubel | Comments (0)

An electric fireplace heater is an easy and cost effective way to add welcome additional heat and a touch of elegance to any room.

What you won't be getting is the smoke, potentially deadly CO2 fumes, and the mess associated with a conventional fireplace.

Prices for an electric fireplace start at $299 and can skyrocket to $2,300 for a combination fireplace/home entertainment center. However, there are many well made, attractively designed models in the $450 - $700 range.

The heating unit, or electric insert, includes the blower, log set and controls. Depending on the model, heat output varies from 1,350 to 1,500 watts. This is enough power to comfortably heat 150 square feet.

In general, the electric insert accounts for roughly $200 (retail) of the total price. So whatever you end up spending over $200 will be for decorating and romance, not additional heat.

Electric Fireplace Styles
In addition to the standard fireplace design, corner units are available to make excellent use of wasted space. Other models offer enhancements such as book shelves, curio cabinets or home entertainment centers. The mantel piece itself can be constructed of finished wood, wood with tile inserts, or expensive cast marble.

Electric Fireplace Sizes
Electric fireplace heaters are usually advertised in three sizes: 33", 28" and 23". This measurement represents the width of the fireplace insert at the front; the larger the insert, the larger the log set and flame display.

Usually, a larger insert means a larger mantelpiece. But different combinations of insert and mantel sizes are available to match the size and scale of your room.

The compact design of an electric fireplace makes it well suited for smaller homes, apartments, condos and even RVs.

Quality of Construction
When you shop online for an electric fireplace you're forced to judge the quality of the merchandise by examining a photograph. Most of the time it's easy to spot a piece of junk, but sometimes it isn't.

A sure way to judge the quality of a fireplace is by its shipping weight. All things being equal, you could reasonably assume an electric fireplace weighing 210 pounds is built to a higher standard than one weighing 120 pounds.

Standard Features and Extras
Standard features on most electric fireplace heaters include the mantel, electric insert, 2 speed blower, on/off remote control, and log set. All models plug into a standard 120V receptacle and are completely portable. Also, the flame feature can be enjoyed at any time of the year with or without the heater.

Some of the available extras include hand carved glowing logs, deluxe trim, bi-fold glass doors, dimmer control and thermostat.

No matter which electric fireplace heater you finally decide to buy, it's important to read the complete product description to find out exactly what's included in the price and what's going to cost extra.

Find out which electric fireplaces are the best value at Best Electric Fireplace Heaters.

Surprise Your Child with a Room Makeover

Posted on Dec 16, 2007 at 12:32 PM by Connie Nicole | Comments (0)

Decorating a kids room from picking out curtain fabric to paint color and picking a theme, make great surprise gifts to give for the young person who has too many toys and overstuffed closets with clothes.

Three of the biggest challenges are figuring out what theme your going to decorate your child's room, deciding what to buy and how to do all the decorating without your child knowing. Some popular theme bedroom choices today are the kids camping room theme, using tents on the top bunk bed, the united states jr loft bed, and princess toddler beds .

A great redecorating idea is using a bunkbed with desk underneath, this will free up a lot of space in the bedroom or a bunkbed with bookshelves to help with book storage. You won't be contributing to more useless clutter in the house, and in fact will be providing an extra place to put some of the clutter that you already have.

Theme bunk beds like the princess toddler beds that were featured on the moving up channel, are priced a bit higher than a standard childrens bunk bed, but the lasting memories they'll create will translate into more time that they will want to spend playing in their room which may be worth the extra money, and lets face it money comes and goes, by doing a really good job of decorating their room your child will have something that will last their entire lifetime, wonderful memories.

You can choose from a variety of custom made bunk beds , and once you've made this choice, you're ready to add unifying accessories to finish the room off. Accessorizing is the fun part, you'll need to research all the small products that are available with your chosen theme, like artwork, rugs, personalized name decorations and have fun picking them out.

Finally, you'll want to find a way to get your child out of the house for the day, or if you have more than one child, you'll want to consider getting them all out for the day. Have someone take them to a movie, a museum, shopping or better yet schedule a playdate with a favorite friend. If you can round up any help from friends or relatives, the more the merrier, you'll all enjoy creating this special surprise that your child will never forget.

Decorate a child's theme bedroom with castle beds

Posted on Dec 9, 2007 at 06:04 PM by Connie Nicole | Comments (0)

Are you looking to decorate your child's room? Is the room a mismatch of things? Are you missing key pieces of furniture and you don't have a unifying theme? It could be any variation of these issues, and you can easily fix these problems without a lot of effort. When you're looking to decorate a child's bedroom, don't head for the same old boring themes. Choose something that will inspire your child, something that will catch their eye. Children's castle beds have become very popular for their classic timeless fairy tale appeal.

Castle themed bedrooms are cheerful magical places that usually are adorned with matching themed furniture. Check to make sure your buying quality furniture, the bed needs to be durable and tough especially for kids. You may also want it to eventually become a family heirloom, then you'll have to spend a bit more to ensure the highest quality bed. You don't want to purchase a big ticket item only to find that it was particle board and is coming apart after 7 years of use. If you're looking to redesign a room on a tight budget, consider purchasing a high quality bed and high quality castle bedding since it's usually the focal point of the room and then getting creative with the rest of the space. Don't bring anything into the space unless it's beautiful. It's also important to focus on beautifying the details of the child's bedroom. These details will add consistency to the room, consider using repeating colors, themes and other elements to achieve this goal.

If you've decided to go with a castle bed theme, your child can carry it into their teen years by changing the bedding and accents as they get older. Incorporating your child's artwork and framing it with a frame that already has layered mattes cut in it. If you find a piece of artwork that they've created or is special enough, paint the walls around the colors in the painting, grab a bunch of swatches, tape them to the wall and rule out the ones that won't work. If you're down to two and having a tough time, consider purchasing a super small bucket of paint and testing a larger patch of paint on the wall to determine what you want.

Transforming the room into a place that reflects your child's personality is a very rewarding experience for both you and your child. A lamp on the nightstand, a colorful rug to add warmth, keep feet warm, matching paint, textural fabrics and color will determine the way the room feels. Adding personal touches like these will create a special place for your child to play, study and dream. The result is castle beds themed bedroom your child will love to have as their own.

Wood patio furniture can really make your yard stand out, but there are a few things you need to be aware of. Teenager Bedroom Ideas To Bring Out Personality

Posted on Dec 8, 2007 at 01:39 PM by Christopher Smith | Comments (0)

When decorating your teenagers bedroom, some ideas that she comes up with might not be what you would have chosen for her. Remembering that this is her area and allowing her to express herself in her room is better than having her frustrated and deciding to go to extremes to find her individuality. Teenager bedroom ideas should come from your teenager, then you can add to it or improve upon it if need be.

Remember you are working with a teenager and not a child so bedroom ideas should reflect that. During the teen years preferences will change and it may be hard to keep up with what is in and what is out. Having an area to study, or to just relax and read a book is a great idea for your teenager's bedroom. Giving your teenager a space in her bedroom to listen to music and take time to herself is great. You can also include a computer for her to do homework if you would like. This is something that you should only do if you feel she is responsible enough to handle it. Giving your teenager too much responsibility at once can cause her to become lost. Allowing your teenager to help come up with bedroom ideas will help the process immensely.

Posted on Dec 4, 2007 at 08:39 PM by Christopher Smith

I am a very opinionated individual. I like to state where I stand on topics. I also like to hear where other people stand. Unlike most opinionated people I do not like to argue. It is not important to me if other's share my opinions, as long as they respect them and so not try to sway me. That is the other unique thing about me if I change my opinion about something I am not afraid to tell people.

Have you ever met a person who does the opposite of what you think is right? Do you know someone who will disagree with the most simple concept or idea just to express a different opinion from you? If you are the mother of a daughter you most likely know exactly what I am talking about. My daughter has opposed me at most everything since she turned twelve years old. Prior to that time she was a fun child. She was always a bit head strong, but she was manageable. Now that she is an adult and getting married she is mellowing again.

Tis The Season For Animated Outdoor Christmas Ornaments

Posted on Dec 4, 2007 at 08:18 PM by Christopher Smith

Let's face it - even during Christmas - that most special time of the year - we still want to look good and keep up with the neighbors. With the amount of time and money that people spend on outdoor Christmas lighting and holiday decorations, this can be kind of hard to do. I was surprised to find out that many of my neighbors start planning their lighted outdoor Christmas decorations months ahead of time. Gone are the days when it was as simple as running a string of lights along the roof and making a snowman in the front yard. Nowadays, if you don't spend weeks decorating, it looks like you have put in almost no effort at all!

Decorate Your Child's Bedroom with a Specific Theme

Posted on Dec 2, 2007 at 02:57 PM by Connie Nicole | Comments (1)

If you want to dramatically change your child's bedroom quickly you'll need to first decide on a theme. Talk to your child about what their interests are. A popular style that's offered is the castle theme bed which can be versatilely dressed up as a classic children's bedroom or a unique kids room. You aren't restricted to a twin bed as your only choice. Depending on the size of the bedroom you can choose from a twin bed, a children's theme bunk bed that fits two children and is also known as the loft bed or a full size children's bed. There are many benefits to using a castle bunk bed.

Since castle beds come in many different sizes and colors, you can use the same theme if you have more than one child and make them look extremely different. For example, a classical themed castle bed for a boy, with your families own coat of arms using dark blue and gray, is going to look very different from a girls castle bunk bed, in vibrant pink, that has a ladder, and either has a place for two children to sleep or a place for their own personal computer. Your child will be thrilled to help you pick out what they want in their bedroom space.

Separate the room into different sections. Don't start picking out accessories until you've decided what activities besides sleeping they are usually doing in the room. Are they avid readers, do they have a lot of friends over, where do they play? All these questions and their answers should be considered when determining what to do with the different sections of the room. Once you've determined what your child prefers, buy accessories that relate to their activities.

Window treatments in a castle themed bedroom look best when a high quality material is used. Using a simple pattern or a one colored curtain is also an option, as the focus of the room will be on the castle bed and unifying theme. When painting, keep in mind the ultimate goal for the look of the room, loud colors will make the space seem busy, whereas softer colors will provide a soothing, relaxing space. A matching wallpaper border along the edge of the wall and ceiling can sometimes dress down a room, be careful when deciding on whether to use this accessory or not.

Whatever theme bed you decide to use, or whatever kind of bed you're looking for, kids bunk beds, loft beds , toddler beds, full size children's beds, bunk beds with slides, enjoy it! Your child will cherish these childhood memories for the rest of their life.

Well, let's face it, light colors can look amazing in a area rug - but they need to be treated carefully (or washed frequently). History of Contemporary & Modern Carpets and Rugs

Posted on Nov 8, 2007 at 02:37 PM by Sandy Henderson | Comments (0)

One of the most influential people to modern carpets and rugs is William Morris. He considered carpet an art form rather than just a floor covering. His advocatiom of the total work of art renewed interest in traditional craftsmanship. This Arts and Crafts movement became known throughout Europe, and became influential in every country.
The Art Nouveau movement was characterized by highly-stylized, flowing, curvilinear designs, often incorporated floral and other plant-inspired motifs. It went through several changes and became the foundation of the Modernists movement
Paris became the center of Avante Garde, Fauvism and Cubism, which broke with the traditional Art Deco that was purely decorative. At that time, the Art Deco style was seen as elegant, functional, and ultra modern.
Fauvism, was characterized by the imaginative use of deep color's and simplified lines. Gustave Moreau was the movement's inspirational teacher and Henri Matisse was considered one of his top students. In Cubism, artwork objects are broken up, analyzed, and re-assembled in an abstracted form. The invention of Cubism was a joint effort between Picasso and Braque. Some believe that the roots of Cubism are to be found in the two distinct tendencies of Paul Cezanne's later work
Functional textile Design began in Germany at the Bauhaus, the first school of industrial design. This school maintained close ties with a lot of contemporary artists such as Paul Klee and Vasily Kandinsky. This school was headed up by Gunta Stolzl who arranged designs with broken areas of vertical and horizontal lines.

After the First World War and the mechanization of labor, the French in particular invested in luxurious custom made rugs. Art Deco rugs became the focal point of a room, with at first densely floral patterns, then intricate geometric patterns. In Britain the Arts and Crafts movement continued to dominate into the 1920's, then abated to be succeeded by Modernism.
In America, designers tended to be overwhelmed by their European counterparts. Frank Lloyd Wright served as a link between Arts and Crafts and modern design. He remained loyal to organic design, which echoed geometric's in architecture, and design in rugs.

These easy to install bathroom shower shelves, stand at eye-level in each corner of the shower - the perfect height for shampoo, soap, and other toiletries. They are easy to put together. Some use a simple adhesive, and others can be installed in just a few seconds using an electric screwdriver.
