We are bombarded today with news coverage of many different diseases that we have the potential of getting. For example, the big one is cancer, diabetes, heart disease, HIV/Aids, then comes others such as staph infections, meningitis, whooping cough, chicken pox and more.

And if you don't catch one of these illnesses or diseases, you still need to worry about getting in a car accident, plane accident and falling off the ladder.

Basically, your chances of dying are about 100%!

Just because we will all die (and pay taxes) doesn't mean that we should walk around worried about everything and not enjoy the time we do have to live.

There are things that you can do that are in your control to have a happier, healthier life while it lasts. The following items are deliberate actions that you can take starting right now.

1. Eat healthier. Skip the sweets, the doritos, the fast food hamburgers and fries. Eat more vegetables, salads, fruits, grains and fish.

2. Get off the couch. The couch potato disease can be cured! Start with a walk around the block.

3. Learn something new or different. Try to learn how to play a musical instrument, learn a language, go back to school. Keep the mind active.

4. Get more sleep. You can schedule work, meetings, appointments...why not schedule your sleep. Sleep can greatly reduce your risk of getting many illnesses.
