The Anatomy of Addiction

The Anatomy of Addiction

About the Author

Henrik Blunck
I am 33, have three kids with my wife: Natacha, Patrick and Christopher. Albums & family info here. Important online business info: here.

It is frightfully easy to stay addicted. Status quo is what the brain has become accustomed to - day in and day out.

Changing status quo disturbs the centre of the brain that deals with reactions.

You CAN break the habit, but you must be conscious about what it requires to stay away from addiction. I quit smoking in 2006, and hope you will find this useful.

The Main Trick - For Me
When I say "the main trick - for me" it's because we are all different. What worked for me may not be anywhere near the most important reason for you. But, given the right tools, you can find the anatomy of your addiction, and BREAK IT.

Taste additives
In my specific case I was schocked when I discovered that asphalt and rat poison were added to the tobacco in cigarettes. I realize this is done in small quantities, but nonetheless it did explain something important: tobacco companies were trying to keep me addicted.

I didn't want any of this, and therefore the decision to quit was coupled with a trip to France where we were staying (in the second week of our vacation) with some very good friends in France that were non-smokers.

Being around smoking the first few days is difficult. But don't make the same mistakes so many have done in acquiring cigarettes (just in case)..... No way! You want to quit? Then you should quit.

Don't prepare for failure. Do what's necessary to remove the easy access to cigarettes. Today I have no problem in being around smokers without ever wanting to take back that addiction.

Au contraire, everybody around me has told me about their experience with people who have either failed, or still have longings after many years, and I truly laugh at that....

Wimps try to do things. Others simply do it. :-)

Stay tuned with my articles on quitting addiction and you will gain a better understanding of the subject. I do write in a cheeky way to make a point, but if you bear with me, you will gain information found nowhere else. :-)
