Do you like Fizzy drinks? Adore chocolates? Devour deserts? Well then in some way or other, if you haven’t already realised this, you are in fact addicted to sugar, and you should be aware of the damaging effects of sugar addiction on your personal health.
For starters, many people find that eating sweet foods affects their weight, because food containing sugar is usually high in calories, and dependent on your own body’s metabolism rate, this can mean anything from absolutely nothing at all, to a dire situation of adding pounds in weight from just a little indulgence in the sweet stuff.
It is also a commonly known fact about sugar that it is actually very bad for human teeth. Even though not everybody knows exactly how chemicals from sugar stick to our teeth like cement and erode away the enamel of the tooth like an acid, constantly, we still all know the basic fact about sugar, that it is very bad for teeth. So then, why do some people eat too much sweet food knowing very well that it is extremely bad for them? It must be a clear case of a Sugar Addiction.
You may argue that it is not always an addiction to sugar that makes us eat sweet things, such as in the case of those who suffer from eating disorders (people who cant stop eating), and you would be kind of right in saying so, but with these type of people, you need to understand that they more so eat all foods in excess quantities, especially junk foods, or quick foods, and fast foods, not just sweet food.
Also, you may argue that as long as you look after your health through exercise, or you have a high metabolism rate, and in both cases do not gain any weight from excess sugar, that then it is not a problem, but please understand here also that just because the body may look like it is in an overall healthy shape, this may not be the same case for the insides of the mouth, and there may be an underlying sugar addiction at work here, ticking like a time bomb, a deadly bug that if not controlled, could grow, and start to interfere with your health, if not only leading to a case of tooth decay, gum disease or other more serious form of mouth disease.
People who have eating disorders are vulnerable to fall into the sugar trap; they may do so without realising that maybe sugar is the actual craving behind the excessive eating. Similarly, people who are in good physical shape, exercise regular, or have high metabolism, are also prone to fall into the sugar trap, because it is not very obvious to them they have a problem until diseases have developed in the mouth.
So why then do some people eat sugar so much, especially people who already have decaying or already badly decayed teeth? It must be an addiction and more so a jerk reaction, to the pleasant enjoyment of indulgence in sugar, as opposed to a simple needs to eat from hunger. We all know somebody who eats way too many chocolates than are good for them, as well as people who cannot live without fizzy drinks, and its unfortunate that these people may not realise that they have an underlying sugar addiction.
All things are good in moderation, and keeping a balanced diet is one of these things.
Be safe; be balanced in your life.
