Fish oil is one of the most powerful vitamin supplements you can take. I'm not talking about the unpleasant oil you'd find in fish. I'm talking about the highly processed fish oil that is rich in Omega 3 fatty acids.
Scientific studies have proven that fish oil tablet supplements fight cardiovascular disease. They also have other remarkable health benefits as well. In a nutritional study done by the venerable Harvard University in 1999, a regression of arterial plaque build up was documented -- and this was just one of the results the study showed.
So, what are the documentable benefits fish oil gives to the human body? In 1996, the American Heart Association released its Science Advisory, "Fish Consumption, Fish Oil, Lipids and Coronary Heart Disease." Since then their findings have reported the benefits of omega-3 fatty acids on cardiovascular disease. The tests included evidence from randomized, controlled clinical trials by trained medical research professionals. The findings outlined corresponded to their November 2002 Scientific Statement, "Fish Consumption, Fish Oil, Omega-3 Fatty Acids and Cardiovascular Disease."
Some of its benefits are, but not limited to the following:
*Fish oils lower blood triglycerides that are a known factor in heart disease. (Triglycerides are fats.)
*Fish oils help lower high blood pressure also called hypertension although slightly.
*It helps avoid thrombosis (blood clots) by preventing platelets from sticking together.
*Minimizes circulatory problems including varicose veins.
*Improves your brain's functions.
*Fish oil improves the health of your hair, nails and skin tone.
Still unconvinced that fish oil supplements or fish oil isn't viable? Consider this comment from the American Heart Association. "Omega-3 fatty acids benefit the heart of healthy people, and those at high risk of -- or who have -- cardiovascular disease. We recommend eating fish (particularly fatty fish) at least two times a week...Fatty fish like mackerel, lake trout, herring, sardines, albacore tuna and salmon are high in two kinds of omega-3 fatty acids, eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA)."
There's a problem, though. Eating so much meat is unhealthy. So, how can you obtain the tremendous benefits of heart-healthy fish oil without eating the meat? Many studies have proven that meat is not good for the intestinal tract as it doesn't have any fiber. It may taste delicious, but overall, it's not optimal for the body. Instead, many are getting the awesome benefits of fish oil benefits through fish oil capsule supplementation.
The American Heart Association recommends people who want to ward off heart disease to get a supplement. Here's what they said, "...Heart disease people may want to talk to their doctor about taking a [fish oil] supplement. Supplements also could help people with high triglycerides, who need even larger doses. The availability of omega-3 fatty acid supplements, free of contaminants, is an important prerequisite." I agree.
There are many good fish oil supplements out there. Look especially for those that are made in GMP-compliant factories. Look for pharmaceutical grade quality if you can find it. Lastly, you want "molecularly distilled" fish oil supplements. Those are the ones I used. Believe it or not, they're not expensive. You can get the above criteria fulfilled in your choice of fish oil tablets for only $16.85 for 60 soft gells. That's the one I take and that's not an expensive price considering the benefits.
If your budget is tight, overall, a good fish oil supplement should be your choice given the scope of benefits they provide -- plus their relatively inexpensive. They certainly are cheaper than wheat grass, goji juice, bee pollen supplements, or ginseng.
