Before you run out to your local drug store for some deodorant, mouthwash or makeup remover consider the following homemade recipes.
Most of the homemade versions of the personal hygiene products you’ll find below are made up of basic household ingredients. Which is ideal when you’re pressed for time.
Homemade Deodorant
Dust baking soda in your armpits. Hey, it works for your fridge. You may not want to use it everyday but it sure is useful in a pinch.
Homemade Breath Freshener
Try chewing a whole clove, or some parsley. If bad breath persists, review your diet or see your doctor.
Homemade Astringent
Pat on cider vinegar, or use a mixture of equal parts rubbing alcohol and water. You can place sprigs of thyme or rosemary in either astringent recipe and let stand a few days for a hint of earthy fragrance.
Homemade Lip Gloss
Fill a small vial with vegetable oil, and keep it in the bathroom. For a portable balm, put a pinch of vegetable shortening in an empty lipstick tube. Apply with finger or lipstick brush.
Homemade Make-up Remover
Vegetable shortening, and vegetable oil are economical and very effective for removing makeup. Massage into skin and wipe off with tissue.
Homemade Body Exfoliate
Treat your body to a cleansing with a mixture of 2 tbsp. moisturizer and 1 tsp. sugar. Gently massage over the entire body. Have a warm shower and then pat yourself dry.
So there you have it, my favourite homemade versions of common personal hygiene products. I’ll be sure to post more recipes in the weeks and months to come.
