If you are going through menopause and thinking of hormone replacement therapy, how about trying out some herbal remedies first before doing so? Herbal remedies can be used to help soothe menopausal symptoms. Menopause is often referred to as "the change." It is a difficult period in time for many women due to the symptoms that they experience. These symptoms include night sweats, hot flashes, vaginal dryness, loss of sex drive, memory loss, depression and sudden mood swings. Also, it can get depressing as many also put on weight during menopause.

There are in fact many herbal remedies that can help soothe menopausal symptoms in various aspects. Here are some of them:

1. Chasteberry Herbal Remedy. Chasteberry is one of the herbal remedies that is often overlooked when treating menopause's difficult symptoms. However, this is a secret known to herbalists that this herb can have a profound effect on the body's hormones. This is why many traditional herbalists and naturopathic doctors recommend it. They say that this herb can actually help reverse the vaginal changes, lowered libido, and other symptoms that are a common part of menopause.

2. St. John's Wort Herbal Remedy. St John’s wort, on the other hand, is a popular herb because it can help with anxiety, irritability and mood swings. In fact, this is one of the herbal remedies that is believed to be more effective in treating depression than traditional antidepressants are. For this reason, herbalists and naturopathic doctors recommend that a person with these symptoms should take between 100 and 300 milligrams of St. John's wort 3 times a day. You should be sure that this is standardized for 0.3 percent hypercin.

3. Gingko Biloba Herbal Remedy. Another one of the herbal remedies that is recommended if you are experiencing difficult menopausal symptoms is Ginkgo Biloba. Herbalists and naturopathic doctors believe that this herb can increase and improve blood flow to most of the body's tissues and organs. It is recommended, by herbalists, that menopausal women take a 40 to 80 milligram capsule 3 times a day. This will also help them if they are experiencing memory loss.

4. Valerian Herbal Remedy. You may also find it hard to go to sleep with hormonal changes. There are herbal remedies that are available to help induce relaxation and sleep. Valerian is both safe and nonaddictive. With this in mind, women should take between 300 to 500 milligrams of this 1 hour before bed each night.

5. Lavender Herbal Remedy. The last of the herbal remedies that is recommended for menopausal women is lavender essential oil. This is another way in which you can achieve a peaceful night's rest. This herb can be easily integrated into aromatherapy. All that you need to do is drop a few drops of lavender essential oil onto your pillow before going to sleep.

If you wish to take a combination of various herbal remedies to deal with your menopausal symptoms, be sure to check with your herbalist or doctor. The important thing to know is that hormone replacement therapy is not the only solution if you are going through a difficult time. Herbal remedies exist to help you lessen the pain!
