I love all of these long hairstyles, but.....

Posted on Nov 2, 2009 at 07:50 PM by Perriann Rodriguez | Comments (0)

If you look at the latest hairstyles out there today, you will find a majority of them are a long length. There are a variety of different types of styles. For example, there is the straight smooth and silky hairstyle. This hairstyle is flat ironed into a sleek beauty that shines and looks amazing. Then you have the curly hairstyle. Long spiral curls are added throughout using a curling iron or hot rollers. And don't forget the partial updo long hairstyle. With this hairstyle, the hair in the crown area is pulled back into a ponytail and secured with a ponytail holder or clip.

These styles are all awesome. The only problem is....

Best Hair Care Products

Those advertisers get me all the time. I see a commercial with a woman who has beautiful, shiny hair. The commercial is advertising some sort of shampoo, conditioner or hair color.

I get sucked in by all those 'guaranteed' claims and end up buying the product the next time I am at the store.

Of course the products never really deliver on what was promised. I then stack up the product next to the others and resolve to at least use most of the product, however bad or mediocre it might be.

How do you choose your hair care products?

How should I get my hair cut?

Posted on Oct 27, 2009 at 07:44 AM by Perriann Rodriguez | Comments (0)

How many times have you asked someone, or yourself this very question?
A woman's hairstyle is a very important factor for self- esteem. Having the right hairstyle can make a huge difference in the way people see you. Not that you should be focusing on superficial factors, but you should realize that the way you look has a lot to do with the way people perceive you.

For example, if your hair is dry or damaged and you don't take steps to remedy the problem, your hair will become broken, frizzy or worse - permanently damaged You definitely would make a bad impression, for example, if you went to a job interview with damaged hair. Likewise, having a haircut that flatters your facial features will take you much further than a haircut that doesn't

What hair cut do you want to get and why - these are very important questions you need to ask yourself before going near a pair of scissors.

Halloween is a fun time of year, which means just about anything goes -- decorate the outside of your house, make spooky costumes (or buy them), and go shopping for candy and other treats that will be given on Halloween night to the little trick-or-treaters that show up on your doorstep.

What other activities can one look forward to on Halloween? Hay rides, bobbing for apples, fall festivals, and treks through haunted houses are just some of the things you can look for on Halloween as a family. For even more fun, though, try creating some Halloween jewelry for the perfect accessories to those spooky or entertaining Halloween costumes. Or if you wish, you can give this jewelry to your trick-or-treaters.

History has shown us the importance of Halloween Masks. They've proven themselves to be a staple of both the modern Halloween costume, as well as a symbol of celebration for the past few thousand years in countries all over the world.

The origins of Halloween date back quite far. It is first noted in the Celtic summer end celebration, and at that time it was called "Samhain". After a while those who were involved in the religions that were more nature oriented made great contributions to the current holiday.

From Frizzy to Straight Hairstyles

Posted on Sep 11, 2009 at 10:54 AM by Perriann Rodriguez | Comments (0)

Frizzy hair is one of the top complaints that women have about their hairstyle. If you look at all the hair products at the drugstore, you will quickily realize this. As we get older and the hair goes gray, the texture of the hair changes, leaving us with frizzy, sometimes unmanageable hair.

Finding the right hair care product that works with frizzy hairstyles can be a little troublesome. Every time I look at all the different products at the drugstore I think to myself, will this product really work or am I just wasting my money. I get sucked in by all the marketing hype that is on all the labels and end up buying new products all the time. I have a whole drawer full of unused products that didn't do the job.

I think I could rewrite some of the marketing hype on some of those products to read '" Product will cause frizzy hair" Seriously, sometimes after I spray a frizzy hair control product on my hair it actually looks worse.

Well, I actually stumbled onto a product that so far works really good on my hair. And it didn't cost a fortune.

Is an Acupuncture Facelift Really a Facelift?

Posted on Sep 8, 2009 at 07:39 AM by Christopher Smith | Comments (0)

Most of us have always heard that acupuncture is a miracle treatment that involves very little pain. On the other hand, we've seen pictures of or heard stories about facelifts being miserable procedures full of pain. Therefore, the thought of an acupuncture facelift, a concept that's being promoted right now, can sound very appealing. Who wouldn't jump at a chance to look years younger without having the pain and recuperative period of a traditional facelift? Does it sound too good to be true? That's probably because it is. However, there is also good news, so be sure to keep on reading.

Super Skin Secrets : Fruit, Yogurt, Milk, And Honey

Posted on Aug 24, 2009 at 04:01 AM by Teresita C. Tayanes | Comments (0)

Cleopatra bathing in milk was not a silly idea, after all. The same with rubbing wrinkly elbows with a slice of lemon. Research has shown that certain plant and dairy food acids, such as honey, lactic acid in sour milk, citric acids from fruits, tartaric acid in wine, and malic acid in apples and other fruits, promote new cell growth and cause shedding of dead cells. These substances are known as hydroxy acids or HAs.

Studies on the effects of hydroxy acids on skin is now well known. In one study, the researchers had subjects apply a mixture of HAs twice daily over twenty weeks. A control group of 15 people were also given the same mixture but adjusted to neutral rather than acidic. Findings in the unadjusted HA group showed a 38 percent increase in cell renewal rates, a 35 percent increase in skin firmness, and a 44 percent improvement in smoothness were seen.

From Frizzy to Flat Hairstyles

Posted on Jun 18, 2009 at 03:53 PM by Perriann Rodriguez | Comments (0)

It seems as I get older my hair gets frizzier. And of course summer is the worst time of year for frizz-with all the humidity in the air.

I have been experimenting with using different hair products for frizzy hair over the last month. Basically I want to use up all the products I have bought before I go out and buy any more.

Today I tried a styling cream from Kenra. I'm not sure it is supposed to be for frizzy hair, but it does seem to help with frizz. Typically I have combined this styling cream with an assortment of other products, trying to get product combos that work. The theory is that if I put more product on my hard to manage hair, then the frizz will be controlled better.

Of course this can be a good thing and a bad thing. Good - because you know that you are getting a good cut and bad because you won't look like that again until you get your next haircut.

So, what can you do about this?

Their job was to be seen, but not heard at all times. Thankfully, our society has come a long way since then. Parents today want only the best for their children. They strive to provide their children with the best clothes, education, and experiences they can. They also love fixing up rooms so their children can have an idyllic space of their own.

It doesn't matter who you are. Anyone, young or old, rich or poor, can become bald. We usually think of men as being the victims of balding, but women and even some children struggle with the problems it causes, too. Losing hair as we age is a natural phenomenon, but for most people balding is presents a social stigma that they'd rather not face. In order to prevent premature balding you need to eat a healthy diet, practice good hygiene, and get plenty of sleep. Even so you may find yourself dealing with a substantial hair loss and looking for products that will prevent and even reverse it.

Home Age Spot Treatments

It's important to remember that a home remedy to fade age spots may not work as well for you as it does for someone else. Also, unlike a medical procedure, you have no guarantee of effectiveness or safety. That means it's important to take precautions when you use an age spot treatment you're not familiar with. However, if you stick to age spot treatments that use harmless ingredients, the worst thing that will happen is no effect at all. That's why many age spot sufferers try this type of age spots treatment before seeking professional medical help.

Cold Sores Be Gone Product Review

Posted on Jan 22, 2009 at 01:29 PM by Perriann Rodriguez | Comments (0)

Do you get cold sores? Cold sores typically show up around stressful times and can also be triggered by sun, wind, cold (pretty much anything).

There are many different treatment ideas floating around. Just to name a few --put toothpaste on the sore as soon as you feel it, same for finger nail polish remover, put ice on it. Some of these treatments do work for some people.

My daughter used (as in the past) to get really bad cold sores that would last for 1-2 months, often leaving some sort of scar. We tried all of the above ideas. None of them really worked, until we discovered the product COLD SORES BE GONE.

You will not believe what is in this product and how it has stopped cold sores in their tracks.

How much do you pay for a haircut?

Posted on Jan 20, 2009 at 11:37 AM by Perriann Rodriguez | Comments (0)

When I was younger, I used to frequent the cheap haircut places on a regular basis. My hairstyle wasn't too complicated and I didn't really feel I needed to spend more than $10 or $15 for my cut. Plus I didn't really see a big difference in the way my hair looked after spending more money than that.

Now, after years of getting haircuts, I can honestly say that there is a marked difference between the $10-15 haircut and the $50-70 haircut. But, when you talk about the $25-40 range, I don't see a big increase in satisfaction over the cuts at the cheaper salons.

What do you pay for your haircut?

Acne May Be Nasty But Can Be Treated

Posted on Nov 26, 2008 at 05:38 PM by Reuben Oyeyele | Comments (0)

Everyone loves to have great skin that is free from acne. Don't we all just detest acne, but yet so many of us are affected with it in our teenage years. Everyone has oil glands that help to moisturize their skin. If your glands produce too much oil, it can definitely cause or contribute to your acne problem. Everyone could just get rid of it by scrubbing. The problem is that bacteria is located beneath the surface of the skin, and scrubbing the surface of the skin will not get rid of this bacteria.

Teenagers with acne may feel besieged by the sudden changes in their appearance. Puberty and acne have been known to go hand in hand. Teenagers who have acne feel isolated, ugly, and insecure. Who wouldn't when everywhere you look, only clear faced (skinned) people are put on the pedestal. Teenagers seem to be the favorite prey for acne. This usually occurs when a teenager is undergoing puberty.

Common causes of acne include contact with an oily substance such as mineral oil, vegetable oil, or petroleum and the use of certain medication such as steroids or the contraceptive pill. However, acne is most often caused by the secretion of androgens, or sex hormones that are initially secreted at the onset of puberty. Common people would connect it to puberty or to adolescence. As we could see or read in some researches, there are also adults who experience the same acne problems as adults do.

Getting Rid Of Acne

Bacteria that are built up on the skin should be eliminated. To do this, it is most effective to use an acne face wash that is aimed at removing bacteria on the skin. Bacteria begin to thrive in these conditions and the bodies immune system kicks in to combat this. It is the bodies immune response which causes the redness and inflammation found in acne.

Things To Avoid

Avoiding stress and exercising regularly while eating healthy and avoiding greasy foods can greatly reduce the amount of acne one has. After trying the natural ways to reduce acne, then it is a good idea to use acne medicines. Avoid using products with a high alcohol content that dries and irritates the skin. Hypoallergenic products may be a wise choice so that you avoid adding additional stresses and drying tendencies to the already challenged skin. Avoid rubbing, touching, or itching your skin with your hands. Your hands contain a lot of bacteria that can cause acne flare-ups.

Avoid sugar and sweet. Also avoid coffee since it may aggravate your acne condition. Avoid mixing or using a lot of products. One moisturizer is enough or one type of gentle cleanser will do.

Clearpores

ClearPores has the possibility to become the most popular herbal acne treatment for many reasons, but especially because of their three-part cleansing system. Clearpores grabs the problem by its roots and removes the reasons for your acne outbreaks.

Clearpores is all-natural and scientifically formulated to reduce acne from the inside out. The product is highly recommended by doctors, herbalists, and of course, consumers and beauty- conscious out there. ClearPores does not follow the trends of most acne products and has rearranged the cycle of harsh chemicals to all natural herbal ingredients. An herbal supplement combined with the facial cleansing system depletes internal bacteria from the body, where symptoms of acne reside.

Clearpores is not just a single product designed to treat merely one aspect of acne, but a powerful 3-part system that attacks both the causes and the effects of acne anywhere on your body. ClearPores is a full skincare system designed to clear away nasty red spots and blackheads that spoil the carefully crafted image of a stylish man. Using the effective of SD Alcohol and Salicylic Acid, ClearPores is able to open up the pores and clear away the grime, excess sebum and bacteria.

Review of FHI Technique Flat Iron

Posted on Nov 13, 2008 at 11:15 AM by Perriann Rodriguez | Comments (0)

My flat iron finally died the other day. Actually if you hold the cord just right, you can still get it to work a little bit. So I decided to order a new flat iron. Starting off on my research, I looked at several different brands. The salon where I cut my hair uses the Chi iron. They used to use the FHI iron.

If you want a quality flat iron, you could probably spend over $200. But, I really didn't want to go that high. I figure my old flat iron lasted nearly 3 years and that was with very heavy use---3 people using it--sometimes on a daily basis.

So, I decided to set the maximum amount to spend at around $150.

The secret to finding perfect hairstyles

I don't know about everyone else out there, but I frequently go through hair dilemas. I want my hair to be longer, yet when it grows out, I hate the way it looks. When my hair grows out it tends to get very thick and is impossible to keep frizz-free.

Unless I make frequent trips to the salon to get it thinned out and layered, I know I will be in for some pretty bad hair days.

I just started reading the book called 'Great Hair' by Nick Arrojo--the hairstylist for TLC's 'What Not To Wear' and I realize that maybe I am missing a very important step to selecting my hairstyle.

Do you have redness in your face?

Posted on Oct 20, 2008 at 03:42 PM by Perriann Rodriguez | Comments (1)

I always use to think that I needed to see a dermatologist to get rid of the redness, splotchiness on my face. For several years I actually did see a dermatologist and used a prescription antibiotic cream called Metrocream for several years.

The prescription cream did work after awhile, but I was concerned with having to use a certain cream every day for the rest of my life.

So, after my last prescription ran out several years ago, I started searching for another non-prescription solution for the redness in my face. You will not believe what I discovered.

Those Enticing Headlines

Posted on Oct 10, 2008 at 10:00 AM by Perriann Rodriguez | Comments (0)

Have you ever been enticed to watch the News at 11:00 pm because of some teaser they mention at 4:00 pm? Like '4 Guaranteed ways to get a raise--story at 11:00 pm' Then when you actually stay up to watch it you are very disappointed to find out what the story is actually about. Like you didn't know that you should ask for a raise?

I find myself increasingly annoyed by beauty magazine covers that claim all sorts of things are inside the magazine. And if you just fork over the $5 or whatever it cost, you will be amazingly suprised with all the information.

As I was doing my daily minutes on the elliptical today, I grabbed one of the magazines that I subscribe to to read. One of the headlines on the cover mentions 20 some ways that you can have sexy hair or new things you can do with your hair---something like that.

As I flipped through the magazine, anxious to read how I can have sexy hair............

You can upload a picture of yourself and then click on the hairstyle you like. These programs are pretty cool. You can even change hair color, add highlights/lowlights and even add makeup/accessories.

My absolute favorite style, that I will probably never get is.........

Herbs In Cosmetics

Herbs have always been "in" where beauty is concerned. After all women used herbs, roots and flowers since time immemorial before packaged beauty products were produced. The current trend of "green" inspired products, it is clear, is a return to the basics, in which we see today's cosmetic industry participating.

Beauty and cosmetic companies that draw inspiration from nature are now found all over the world. Clarins, a French company, has been manufacturing for years skincare products that contain highly concentrated vegetable ingredients. Another is Givenchy, whose make-up colors and skincare lines are filled of light effects drawn from Nature; sun, sea, coral. There are also an increasing number of ecology-inspired local companies such as makers of herbal soaps and lotions based from vegetable extracts, fruits, and flowers.

Washing Your Hair: The Big Myth

Posted on Jul 21, 2008 at 05:10 AM by Nicole Watson | Comments (0)

Washing your hair every day is a big fat myth!

The only people who should be washing their hair so routinely are people who have excessively oily hair (even that can be exacerbated by too much shampooing - always check what kind of shampoo you're using for your scalp condition, and when in doubt, consult a stylist or dermatologist), sweat completely through their hairstyle (if they find the sweat leaves any sort of odor when it dries, or they have hygienic concerns), or thoroughly dirty their hair over the course of a day (such as a mud wrestler - any mud wrestlers here to give input? No? That's what I thought.).

Beyond the risks associated with the potential for Botox and Myobloc to migrate beyond the muscles for which it was intended, is a growing global concern with regard to just who is doing the procedure, and what they're injecting.

This week the Physicians Coalition for Injectable Safety (PCIS) cautioned consumers against accepting Botox treatments while on vacation, from someone they don't know, and with a product they can't verify as approved.

Long before Botox was making headlines over the possibility of the substance migrating away from the initial injection site and posing sometimes dire health consequences for the patient, concern was growing over the proliferation of Botox spas and Botox parties, where Botox Cosmetic (botulinum toxin) was administered to erase lines and smooth wrinkles, providing for the client a more youthful look. Driven on by the reports of celebrity use, including actor Elizabeth Hurley and singer Kylie Minogue, consumers are continuing to line up for a process that until recently was reserved for the rich and famous.

As new research continues to reveal that Botox, and Botox Cosmetic may not necessarily be the risk-free, never-give-it-a-second-thought cosmetic treatment that people eat up like candy, there are those who look beyond the potential dangers and even beyond the need.

It's called growing old gracefully.

Botox has been around far longer than most would suspect, as the use of Botox for cosmetic purposes is a fairly recent indication. Botulinum toxin has been used for years to treat muscle spasms, which prove debilitating for some people and has been, according to some, a godsend for helping to control limb spacticity in patients suffering from cerebral palsy. Most, however, have received Botox injections for eye and neck spasms.

Have you ever highlighted on your own?

Posted on May 14, 2008 at 10:41 AM by Perriann Rodriguez | Comments (0)

I frequently color my own hair. Usually I choose some boring shade of brown or light brown. Of course the first time that I did it, I was a little nervous. Always concerned about ending up with some strange color.

The drugstore has quite a selection of hair color products. There are now 10 minute hair color kits. The prices vary from $6 to almost $20. Even though the prices are getting higher, I still think it is much cheaper than going to the salon. Most salons probably charge from $40-120 for all over color and even more for highlights.

Have you ever added highlights to your hair?

Hair Care Products Review: Aveda, Kiehls, Body Shop, Garnier

What does "natural" mean? It means a shampoo or hair dye has few chemical preservatives, colorings or fragrances or agents to make shampoos sudsy. Natural ingredients are harder to store, transport and preserve, so these shampoos and conditioners may be a tad pricier than their chemical-laden counterparts. You'll have to look in your fridge or cupboard for 100% natural hair products, since the shelf life of manufactured conditioners, dyes and shampoos needs a boost from at least a few chemical preservatives.

Here's an overview of the most popular environmentally-friendly hair care lines, along with some DIY tips for at-home hair care.

Botox Injections

Botox is a very popular service today that helps to reduce wrinkles and links that appear on your face. Botox is a fast fix, where over the counter creams and gels are not really a fix at all.

Almost all of the anti-aging creams and lotions companies claim in their marketing campaigns that their product will 'visible reduce' or 'transform' your face in just a few days, weeks or months.

The reality is that these creams really don't deliver the kind of results that are visible. Maybe if we looked at our skin under a microscope we would see a difference.

If you do decide to get botox injections, then there is something that you need to be aware of.

Nail Polish Remover: Why Non-Acetone Remover Wipes Are Your Safest Bet

Posted on Mar 26, 2008 at 04:47 PM by Kristie Brown | Comments (0)

Women love to look beautiful. Make-up has been a staple of this practice and society for as long as living memory. Even the most uncivil societies on this planet use make-up in one form or another. Nail polish is but one example of how women attempt to add a bit of flair to their appearance. Nail polish, like other make-ups, can be harsh on the skin and the ways that we go about removing it can hurt the derma, or surface of the skin.

Nail polish remover is alcohol based and can, and usually does, hurt the fingernail. non-acetone based, nail polish remover wipes are a much safer option.

The alcohol base in commercial nail polish remover can dry out the nail causing it to turn white or crack. These removers also can cause damage to the cuticle of the finger leaving it red, agitated, and hurting. There is also a risk of one being allergic to the harsh astringent found in them.

Such general misconception over just what Botox is and how it works, continues to grant Botox the widespread perception that a Botox injection is a quick and easy way to get rid of unwanted wrinkles for up to four months, without any risk whatsoever."

That's the perception. But it is far from reality.

A true semi-permanent hair color (one without a developer) is not recommended to cover grey unless you are using a very dark color.

Botox Could Leave You Breathless

Posted on Feb 23, 2008 at 07:09 PM by News Jockey

Recent concern over adverse effects, including deaths stemming from injections of Botox and Myobloc for both cosmetic uses and muscular conditions appear to carry much more weight in Europe, than it has in the US.

It also appears to carry more weight with consumer advocacy groups such as Public Citizen, than with the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the agency entrusted with the health and well being of the nation.

The FDA issued a communiqué February 8th warning of the potential for rare, but serious adverse effects related to the use of Botox, Botox Cosmetic, and Myobloc. While it has been suggested that there are no qualitative problems with the drugs, the fact remains that the existence of adverse effects which may or may not mirror results of pre-market trials of the drugs has nonetheless raised a red flag.

Hair Protection & Prevention Tips

Posted on Feb 10, 2008 at 12:27 PM by Nicole Watson | Comments (0)

Hair is part of beauty. Hair is basically made up of protein and keratin. The hair itself has no blood supply and no nervous system. Wash your hair as frequently as you need to and always use appropriate shampoo and conditioner. Do not brush, scratch or shampoo hair and scalp before any chemical service. Always use a soft brush with correctly spaced bristles. Avoid brushing wet hair. This will cause the hair to stretch and finally break. Keep your combs and brushes scrupulously clean. Try not to backcomb, pull your hair into a tight knot or try very unconventional hairstyles that involve twisting and tugging your hair. When using blow dryers, always keep the heat a good distance from your scalp and hair. Avoid heating the scalp and hair excessively.

It's a new year and most people go to great lengths to come up with new year's resolutions that they just break a week into January.

Why go through all that trouble just to quit?

Perhaps it's better to come up with a simpler plan that includes separate steps that you can reach every month. So instead, for example, saying that you want to lose 20 pounds by the summer, you would instead break it down into a week by week goal that keeps you on task.

The same goes for everything that you want to do. Why not set up a plan for a total body makeover? That means everything.....hair, skin, nails, clothes, outlook, etc.

Here's some tips on how to find the right base that is specifically for your skin type :

* First, analyze your skin. What is your color? Are you fair, medium or dark? When choosing the color, it is better to shop with a clean, bare face.

Apply a small amount along your jawline so you can make the base matches your face and neck. Avoid testing on your inner wrist, because the color of our wrist is entirely different from our face. After applying, borrow a mirror and stand near a doorway, examine your skin in broad natural light.

Facelifts Without Surgery

Posted on Dec 16, 2007 at 09:54 PM by Teresita C. Tayanes | Comments (0)

Non-invasive cosmetic procedure is in. Top Canadian plastic surgeon, Dr. Stephen Mulholland has aptly said, "Women no longer want to have face lifts; they just want the results without the inconvenience of downtime and surgery." He noted that an epidemic that has spread among American women is beginning to afflict the rest of the world.

Here's a look at some of the non-surgical alternatives to facelifts :

* Thermage

Thermage is a non-surgical procedure that tightens skin, smoothes out wrinkles, and defines the face's natural contours with the use of radio-frequency technology called Thermacool. A device called Thermatip is used to heat up deeper layers of the skin in order to stimulate the production of new collagen that claims to result in smoother and younger-looking skin.

* Electro-Ridopuncture Process (ERP) and Anti-Aging Transdermal System (ATS)

These methods are one of the entire range of Dr. Phillipe Simonin's dermatological procedures. Dr. Simonin is a world renowned anti-aging doctor. He uses ERP, which allows the treatment of the cutaneous senescense and skin imperfections like acne and wrinkles. ATS involves applying electroded made from 18-carat gold to the skin.

* Refirme

A skin tightening treatment that promise to eliminate skin flaws and obvious marks of aging by employing the technology of electro-optical synergy, a unique, safe, and most accurate combination of low-energy broad spectrum light and radio frequency. Refirme promises the following results : skin laxity and sagging in the face, neck and other body areas such as the abdomen and upper arms are tightened ; loss of skin elasticity is revived in the treated areas of the face and body ; large pores are made tighter and less prominent ; reduction of aging signs, undereye bagginess and sags ; eyebrows can be arched up ; dull skin tone becomes lighter and more supple.

What you need to know before using Curly Hair Extensions.

Posted on Dec 16, 2007 at 12:50 PM by Connie Nicole | Comments (1)

If you're looking to add fullness, length or maybe a little color to your hair, consider using curly hair extensions. Whether you're looking for curly hair extensions to enhance your beauty or you need them for medical reasons you'll find that there's enough options to expirement with different looks. Usually extensions are made from either synthetics or real human hair, sometimes you'll find them with a combination of both. The synthetic process for manufacturing them usually uses the products kanekalon and toyokalon.

The are about six different types of textures, ranging from asian type straight hair, european straight hair, which has a bit more volume, deep wave, which appears more like spiral curls, spanish style, that appears wet and wavy, and the african kinky curly hair extensions that look like baby curl extensions.

When adding curly hair extensions to real hair there are a few different methods, from the least invasive which is the curly clip on hair extensions, that are pretty easy to insert and remove, to sewn in wefts, which are groups of hair usually braided together, to the most time consuming way, which is to use adhesives, by gluing curly clip on hair extensions directly to real hair. The glue can be painful and irritating if it gets on sensitive scalps, so extra care should be used.

Cleaning care of curly hair extensions is pretty much the same as taking care of real hair, except you want to be a bit more careful. It can be shampooed and conditioned, but because synthetics will burn and melt under heat, do not use a curling iron, straightening iron, or blow-dryer. Real human hair extensions don't have such limitations. Whatever curly hair extensions be sure to experiment with different styles and textures to make sure you don't get stuck with a curly hair extension that doesn't look good on you.

Put away the blow dryer. For beautiful, individual curls, it's much better to let your hair air dry. In circumstances when you can't do this (a hot date, -10 degree weather) use a diffuser and low heat to keep your curls from separating. Avoid heat in general, since it can dry your hair and cause it to become brittle and tangly. Split ends and dry hair greatly contribute to frizz, so a big part of frizzy hair care is preventing damage.

Likewise, avoid brushing. Most of the time, applying the brush to curly hair just turns up the volume, making beautiful curls turn into a fluffy mess. Instead, try a comb with wide teeth that slides easily through your hair, and use it only after first finger combing out all the tangles you can. Comb dry if you can, but if you find this makes your hair big and difficult to control, comb it while it's still wet, but carefully. Wet hair is more fragile than hair that's dry, and will break off if stressed.

Frizzy Hair Care Dos
Get to know your stylist, and make sure that he or she knows how to deal with curly hair. Some of your frizz could be due to having a cut that doesn't work with your natural curl pattern, or one that's not well suited to your hair type. See if your stylist will experiment with cutting your hair dry, and if they're willing to change their methods. If not, look for a new stylist. If you see someone with great curly hair, ask them where they get their curly hair cut

Shampoo infrequently. This might sound gross, but it's really not. Curly hair requires more moisture than straight hair, and it loses that moisture easily. Shampoo is one culprit, and it can take the curl out of your hair and turn it into frizz. Instead, try spacing out your washes. Your scalp should quickly adapt, and begin producing less oil. You can also use cleansing conditioners and hair rinses between shampooing to keep scalp oil down and make sure your curly hair stays shiny.

Long Hair Care for Curly Hair

Posted on Dec 2, 2007 at 12:56 PM by Connie Nicole | Comments (0)

The right curly hair care, as always, is important to maintaining the beauty of your long curly hairstyle. The longer your hair, the older it is, and the more it's had to put up with. It's important to protect long
curly hair from damage as much as possible. Split ends and dry follicles make even the simplest of hairstyles much more difficult to achieve.

Skip the Daily Shampoo
To care for your long curly hair, treat it gently. Shampoo infrequently with a nondrying product that contains no harsh detergents, or skip the shampoo entirely and use a cleansing conditioner made for curly hair instead. Clarifying rinses are also available for in between days. Deep condition regularly to revitalize dried out follicles, preferably with a conditioner that derives its moisture from a natural source, like shea butter or coconut. Dried out curls are more likely to frizz, whereas well moisturized ones stay in well behaved ringlets.

Avoid Breakage
Breakage is the enemy of a good regimen of curly hair care. Comb only with wide toothed combs, never narrow, and avoid brushing. Finger comb the worst of the tangles out before you start in with a normal comb. Avoid heat in styling - flat irons and blow dryers should be used infrequently if possible. If your hair will tolerate it, comb it when it's dry. Wet hair is more fragile than dry hair, and will break more easily. However, many curly haired people find that their hair gets awfully big when they comb dry. If you experience volume expansion when you comb dry, you can detangle wet. Just use your fingers at first, and be sure to go carefully. It's when you get in a hurry that you'll break your hair the most.

Protect Your Hair From The Sun
A big part of hair care for
curly hair that we forget about. When the sun bleaches your hair, it's because UV radiation is degrading the melanin, and other materials, in the strand. This means that people with "sun kissed" locks are more likely to have dry or brittle curls with a rough texture, and to suffer from split ends. Wear a hat or scarf when it's convenient, and use products that offer protection from the sun if you expect to be out in it for a long time. These products will help your hair stay moisturized and keep color from fading - a blessing if you color your hair.

What You Ought To Know About Laser Hair Removal For Pubic Hair

Posted on Nov 2, 2007 at 09:59 PM by Natalie Williams | Comments (0)

The laser pubic hair removal procedure is roughly the same for men and women; it consists on radiating the pubic area with a high energy laser beam for a very short time. This energy is soaked up by the dark pigment present in the hair follicles, disabling their ability to grow and stopping them from becoming thicker. The laser beams attack pigments, so the lighter the skin, the less damaged it receives. However, the damage received in the skin is not permanent, even if the treated area is large. Removing pubic hair by laser doesn't normally cause pain, but just a little irritation. If you have very delicate skin in your pubic area, you should consider using a mild topical anesthetic to reduce the irritation, but it is most likely unnecessary.

8 Top Foods For Healthy Skin

Posted on Feb 11, 2007 at 10:03 PM by Teresita C. Tayanes | Comments (0)

Research into skin conditions indicates that diet plays a major role in the maintenance of healthy skin. There are several foods that are commonly believed to have beneficial effects on the condition of our skin and well-being. Psoriasis, for example, may be alleviated by increasing intakes of essential fatty acids. Likewise, deficiencies in certain nutrients may also result in dry skin and poor wound-healing.

The book "Healing Foods : The Complete Guide" by Amanda Ursell provides one chapter of her book discussing top healing foods for healthy and beautiful skin. These beneficial foods include :

1. Avocados. Contain nutrients that help to maintain skin structure and help wounds to heal. The nutrients vitamin E and mono-unsaturated oils have given avocados a name for beautifying the skin and for helping burns and wounds to heal.

2. Sweet Potatoes. Useful for protecting against sun damage, helping scars to fade, aiding wound healing. Contain beta carotene, vitamin C and E.

3. Oily Fish. Contain fatty acids that decrease inflammation and improve the skin's watertightness. Beneficial for some forms of dry skin, psoriasis, and inflammation. Rich in omega-3 fatty acids, EPA and DHA.

Ways To Acne-Free Skin

Posted on Jan 8, 2007 at 03:48 AM by Teresita C. Tayanes | Comments (0)

Acne is the most common skin problem. Psychologically, it's presence can be a real downer particularly to teenagers as the condition is more prevalent during adolescence. Acne occurs most in the face, chest, shoulders, and back, and it can be aggravated by emotional stress.

More than just poor personal hygiene can cause such a skin condition, as more and more research say that this could be the result of the overproduction of sebum or oil of the grease-producing sebaceous gland of the skin. The underlying cause might be the increased activity of the glands due to the effects of the sex hormones such as testosterone which stimulate the production of keratin and sebum. Levels of these hormones increase in puberty in both boys and girls but are most higher and common in males.

Whiteheads, blackheads, and pimples are the unsightly features of acne. Scarring can occur when red bumps called nodules break down the surrounding tissue. It can also be the result of damage done by pricking fingers. So do not prick them or squeeze them. A doctor will remove blackheads for you or teach you how to do it.

Although acne condition is complicated, health experts and dermatologists are one in saying that it can be controlled. Washing the skin two or three times a day with ordinary soap and water will help remove oil, taking some if not all, of the plug of sebum with it. Grease from the hair makes acne worse, so wash your hair often and keep it off your face.

How To Take Care Of Your Skin Without Spending Much

Posted on Dec 4, 2006 at 04:02 AM by Teresita C. Tayanes | Comments (1)

I know very rich people can afford to buy expensive products to have beautiful skin. Although these "expensive" beauty products do have their benefits, more often than not, beautiful skin is the result of a healthy lifestyle and an effective skincare regimen.

Here are some practical tips on how to maintain a beautiful skin without spending too much :

* Drink lots of water. Drinking around eight glasses a day can cleanse your system and hydrate your skin.

* Eat balanced meals. A healthy diet will help you achieve blemish-free skin. Try to eat in moderation and include more in fruits and vegetables.

* Get enough sleep. Make sure you get enough sleep. Around eight hours should do the trick, you will look so much better minus the dark circles and eye bags.

* Exercise regularly. Exercise helps rid your system of toxins aside from keeping your body trim and toned. It stimulates perspiration and the oil-secreting action of the skin which helps retain moisture and health in our skin, hair and even nails.

* Protect yourself from the sun's harmful rays. Unprotected exposure to the sun's rays will not only cause premature lines, freckles and sun spots, but might even lead to skin cancer. Wear sun block whenever you go outdoors, not just when you're on the beach, by the pool or engaging in some outdoor activity. The earlier you get into this routine, the better.

* Reduce stress. Relax and take things in stride. You'll look younger and more beautiful when you feel good inside.

* Establish a skincare regimen. You must consistently follow a skincare program in order to achieve and maintain beautiful skin. It need not be complicated procedure, the simpler it is , the more convenient to you. Simple routine such as cleansing, toning, nourishing or moisturizing may spell the difference between aging gracefully and looking old, dull, and tired.

Don't Get Burned By a Used Tanning Bed

Posted on Dec 1, 2006 at 01:04 PM by Kristie Brown | Comments (0)

The convenience of tanning at home is just one reason consumers might shop for a used tanning bed. Whatever the reason, if you're in the market for one, there are a few things you should consider as you begin your search. If you know what to watch out for, you'll get a quality bed at a reasonable price. Here's how:

Do Your Homework

Shopping for a tanning bed is similar to shopping for a car. Just like a car, the seller may or may not reveal all that he or she knows about the bed. Be sure to do some research on the make, model and year of the bed you are thinking about purchasing. Be sure there are no major defects or problems with that type of bed also.

Why is This Tanning Bed for Sale?

Be sure to ask the seller a few questions. Why is the sunbed for sale? If it is because it's difficult to get parts for, then you might want to keep looking because the bed is probably older and considered unsafe. Older models might require bulbs that emit dangerous UV-A rays that are known to cause skin cancer. Newer beds use bulbs that emit safer UV-B rays.

Another question to ask the seller is about any remaining warranties. Many tanning beds come with a one year full warranty or a lifetime limited warranty. Buying a used model may render it defective and not repairable under warranty. Also, be sure to inquire whether all the parts function properly. If a timer doesn't work or a bulb sometimes doesn't come on, it is probably best to move on with your search.

There are a lot of quality used tanning beds around but, just like used cars, you may have to look at several before you find the one that works best for you.

New vs. Used

You might consider the benefits of buying a new tanning bed. Unlike with many cars, models are often not much more expensive than their used counterparts. You can be more assured that a new bed will meet or exceed the most recent safety standards and that you will have, at the minimum, a one year full warranty. That is not guaranteed with a used model.

New or used, a tanning bed can bring years of enjoyment to you and your family. Just be sure to be a smart consumer so that you don't get burned on your purchase...and in a literal sense as well.

Want more information on used tanning beds? At http://www.getabettertan.com, we'll show you the ins and outs along with what to watch out for when shopping for a home tanning bed.

Stretch Marks: Common Causes

Posted on Nov 25, 2006 at 08:47 PM by Dave Kettner | Comments (1)

What are stretch marks? Stretch marks are the nasty lines of stretched tissues that appear on the upper thighs or the stomach right after pregnancy. Stretch marks also appear after a person has relatively gained or increased weight abruptly. During weight increase and height growth, the production of collagen by our body is aborted. Collagen is our skin's natural protein that gives our skin its natural texture. Once there is an imbalance in the necessary amount of collagen in our skin, it begins to wrinkle and fold at certain areas. Our skin begins to resemble long and think cat-like dry and gray scratches across our stomach and over our thighs, and thus begins the occurrence of the perennial problem and nightmare of women: stretch marks!

Hair Removal

Unwanted hair on the face (eyebrows, upper and lower lips, cheeks, chin, hairline, bridges of the nose between the eyebrows and sideburns) as also on the neck, shoulders, arms and underarms, breasts, abdomen, bikini line, legs, back and the chest often makes hair removal quite essential. Particularly for those who are active and need to meet others daily. For female swimmers it is absolutely vital since the scanty swimsuit reveals most of the body to others. Hair also slows down the swimmer due to friction. The matter becomes even more embarrassing for women who are rather liberal with their dresses as compared to the average male whose attire covers almost the whole body.

The Best Sunless Tanning Lotions: Today’s top picks

Posted on Oct 2, 2006 at 11:47 AM by Kristie Brown | Comments (2)

Sunless tanning lotions are on the rise now more than ever as more of us realize that sun bathing is dangerous for our skin and subsequently, dangerous to our health. Many believe that because of global warming, the sun has become a real danger for our skin; causing premature aging and serious skin problems such as skin cancer. In recent years, we've seen increased concerns when it comes exposuing our skin directly to the sun.

So how can we maintain a healthy glow year round without subjecting our skin to the harmful rays of the sun? That's right! Sunless tanning lotions!

Have you ever wondered how sunless tanning lotions work?

Our skin naturally protects us from the UV damage by producing something called melanin. This is a substance that absorbs the harmful ray
