WIth today's corruption involving the making of the food we eat, it's important to understand the benefits of eating organic food.

Companies such as Monsanto, along with corrupt government officials, are trying to corner the market in terms of genetIcally modified food and the patenting of natural processes, such as the growth of a pig (go ahead, Google "pig patent").

"Far from feeding the world, people are going to starve because of genetically engineered foods. More and more peasants will see their crops substituted through biotechnology." - Vandana Shiva, physicist and ecologist, India

If you want to make sure you don't fall victim to new food allergies or developing a disease because you're ingesting pesticides and mutated genes, it's time to seek out organic food.

This little article isn't going to show you all the details. It's up to to you to do your own research into what's happening with our food chain.

In my opinion, scientists and those reaching for power are putting us all in a dangerous situation by messing with the natural order of things.

In an article called "Food Power to Corporations", Olli Tammilehto says, "Domination is assumed by creating dependencies, and through domination you get money, which itself is a form of power. Therefore people's ability to get food independently with the help of other life forms and by their own effort has always been annoying for the avaricious and the domineering.

"Accordingly, enclosing the common fields, pastures and forests and preventing access by the majority has been a crucial factor in the creation of the present enormous concentration of power and wealth, both in historical Europe and in the Third World today... One of the most promising new ways of fostering domination is to create a genetic dependency; to make a farmer dependent on seeds (or other carriers of genetic information) from a corporation."

Rather than fall prey to the corruption inherent in the "missing" research on genetically modified food, you can be proactive in your search for a healthy alternative: organic food.

In a recent letter on stretcher.com, Kathy W. said:

"We ... are very interested in eating organically whenever possible.

"In order to do this, we joined a food co-op. Through the co-op, we are able to buy organic foods for far less. Usually I only buy things when they are on sale and then I buy large quantities of them and store, dry, can or freeze them for use during the rest of the year. Yes, it does take extra room, but it is well worth it to clean out other clutter.

"I have been able to reduce our overall food budget despite my young sons eating more, and doing it with better quality of food. There are quite a few good food co-ops available. For instance, I am with a group affiliated with Northfarm. Ask around your area and see."

Kathy has the right idea. Our society has become one intent on cutting corners and taking the easy way out. Well, taking the easy way out with your diet can mean you end up obese, come down with diabetes, heart problems, or become hospitalized with one of the growing afflictions caused by man-made "fake" food.

By taking the time to seek out and eat organic food, you can take back the health we've legislated out to those wishng for power and profit by making us sick.

"The genetic modification of food is intrinsically dangerous. It involves making irreversible changes in a random manner to a complex level of life about which little is known. It is inevitable that this hit-and-miss approach will lead to disasters. It must disrupt the natural intelligence of the plant or animal to which it is applied, and lead to health-damaging side-effects." - Dr Geoffrey Clements

"They're now turning those seeds into intellectual property, so they have a virtual lock on the seeds upon which we all depend for our food and survival." - Jeremy Rifkin
