If you have had a visit with your medical doctor recently and he/she told you that you were pre-diabetic, then you will definitely want to read this.
Pre-diabetes means that your blood sugar levels are approaching a level that could indicate that you are just on the verge of being diagnosed with diabetes.
There are 4 very important steps that you can take to prevent an official diagnosis of diabetes.
4 Diabetes Prevention Steps
Getting the news that you may be pre-diabetic can be a little overwhelming. You may be thinking to yourself, I don't know of anyone in my family that has diabetes. Well, the bad news is that type 2 diabetes can creep up on anyone at any time. No prior family history of diabetes required.
Type 2 diabetes occurs when the body doesn't process the insulin it produces properly. The pancreas is still producing insulin in Type 2 diabetes. Type 1 diabetes is a whole other story where the pancreas doesn't produce insulin at all or very little.
There are 4 very simple steps that you can take to put a halt to your impending diabetes diagnosis.
1. Get moving. Add at least 30 minutes of exercise to your daily schedule. If you don't have 30 minutes available during your day, then you can try breaking it up into 3 10-minute sessions. Just walk around the block! Whatever you do, just make sure your physical activity is increasing.
2. Eat right. Your diet should consist of fresh fruits, fresh vegetables, omega3 fatty acids, proteins in healthy portions, fiber. Stop eating junk and empty calories!
3. Add a little spice to your life! Cinnamon has been known to help make insulin cell receptors more sensitive to insulin by 300% So grab a cup of hot chocolate and sprinkle on some cinnamon!
4. Take magnesium supplements. Research studies show that people that take magnesium supplements have a lower incidence of diabetes. Natural sources of magnesium include dark green leafy lettuce, avocados, nuts, whole grains.
In short, if you take the appropriate preventative measures you may be able to keep type 2 diabetes away. The key to prevention, however, is regular consistent changes. Don't expect to walk every day for one week and then take off 5 weeks. Every day is a new day and if you want a healthy life you must make efforts to achieve health.
