My recent blog entry was about making time to have fun with your kids. Ok, so now that you have made time for fun are you thinking what to do?
My husband and I actually created a list. Yes, a list. We were always saying we should do this or that and even with good intentions we always seemed to do the same things. We never managed to get to the new things or different things we wanted to do.
A friend of mine even copied my idea and now she has a list. Our lists keep growing and we constantly give each other ideas. There are more items on the list than I can possibly do in the next year but that’s ok. It’s not about completing the list it’s about doing fun things.
Getting started was really easy. I jotted down all the ideas my husband and I had off the top of our heads. We were amazed how many things we came up with. Then I did a little Internet research (what did we ever do without the Internet?) and came up with more ideas. Once my friend looked at the list she added ideas.
Ok, so how do you get started? Write down all the places near you you’d like to visit with your kids. Don’t think about money or when you’ll go just write them down for now.
Go to your library or local bookstore. Amazon has several “things to do with kids” books. Do a Google search for “things to do with kids in YOUR TOWN”. Look at the websites for your neighborhood, county or city. I have found a lot of free things (or at least inexpensive) to do here.
Ask friends for their ideas. Look at your local paper or even those free local papers for ideas.
We live in Colorado and there is a free publication called Colorado Parent. That magazine always has ideas. I’m sure something like that can be found anywhere. Look at the free publications at your grocery store or discount store (Target, Wal-Mart).
There is a great rec center near where we live. They have classes of all kinds for all ages. This is a great place for ideas and a great place to pick up free publications.
This will get a good list started. Keep adding to the list as you run across ideas.
Each week check the list. Do you have a week-end coming up with nothing to do? Do you have a day you just want to do something? Pick something from the list and go have FUN!
Remember, it’s not about completing the list it’s just about having ideas for FUN things to do. And it doesn’t have to be all expensive ideas. Kids can have fun doing a lot of different things.
Let me know if you are interested in seeing any specific ideas from my list. Please tell me about your ideas. Where do you get ideas or things I can add to my list. I’d like to hear from you!
