A potluck is a great way to go stipulation you don't feel likebarbecuing and everyone lives relatively close to each other.
Future away relatives won't be able to contribute much so this is best for families that live within CENTURY miles of each other.
The airlines are pretty strict these days and having Grandma bring her famous Congeal-O salad from New Jersey just isn.t an option.
