Motion detectors are everywhere. You have probably run across one at least once. There are many different purposes for these motion alarms, but the main purpose is for the person with the detector to be able to tell when someone is on their property. The technical definition for a motion detector is: a device that contains an electronic sensor to measure motion. It may also include a device that gives off an alarm when the sensor is triggered. There are also motion sensors that use radar to detect motion, but because they use a form of motion detector radar, they may set off other radar detectors.

There's a saying that runs : "The first generation builds the company. The second preserves it. The third squanders it." According to some research, there are fewer than 5 percent of family-owned businesses that survive under control.
The book "India Unbound," an international bestseller authored by Gurcharan Das, explains this phenomenon : "The first generation makes the money, and naturally wants to flaunt it. The second doesn't want more money ; it wants power. Born into money and power, the third generation dedicates itself to art, or more likely just squanders the fortune. The Kennedy's, Rockefellers, and others illustrate this cycle."
However, not all family in business is taking this same dismal track. Josie O. Santamaria, author of "Managing Work and Career," says there are families who have made their partnership in love, marriage and business successful. It listed the following tips to couples who plan to start their own business or are running one :

Like To Read But Don't Have The Time?

Like To Read But Don't Have The Time?
Audio Books can be the solution!
We have a lot to be grateful for when talking about technology.
Who would have ever believed that not only would we cut down on the way we use up our vegetation for making hardcover and paperback books, we would also be able to "listen" to our books instead of "reading" them.
Ironic? Not with the introduction of audio books.
With audio books, we now have the unique advantage of doing other things that take up our hands, but not our minds. We can now do other things like household chores, exercising, driving or riding in a vehicle, etc while still having the book read to us.
There are several ways you can listen to an audio book: on your PC, iPod, MP3, download to a cd and play in your car or other types of sound systems that support the playing devices.
More people are embracing the wonders of audio books and are buying their favorite books in audio book version.
If you are considering buying an audio book, below are a few of many favorite places you can enjoy your new found treasure.
1--In bed - There are certain days when we just don't want to do anything but lie down in bed thinking of certain issues. Or we could just want to lie down in the dark until we fall asleep.
This is a great time to listen to an audio book. You wouldn't have to bother with turning on the lights, holding the book, flipping through the pages or the stress of reading the book itself.
With an audio book, the entire book will be read to you while you stay comfortable in bed - without flipping any pages, holding the book or turning on the lights.
2--In the kitchen while doing household chores such as washing the dishes or cooking. For some people it can be very boring and tasking being in the kitchen, especially washing the dishes.
This is a great time to enjoy an audio book because your hands are busy but your mind is free.
Instead of feeding your mind with negative thoughts, an audio book would be a wonderful alternative.
3--In the garden while gardening - You can also listen to audio books while gardening. The audio book can make the gardening fun because you would be concentrating on the enjoyment of the audio book and not on the difficulty of gardening.
4--While exercising such as walking, jogging or even running - Exercising such as walking leaves your mind open but your hands, legs and even your entire body busy. This is a great time to enjoy an audio book.
Most people perform exercises for many minutes or even hours while their minds do nothing. But listening to an audio book during this time ensures you don't waste those times when you exercise.
Talk about killing 2 birds with one stone - exercising your body and mind at the same time!
5--On the road commuting - This could either be in your personal car or a commercial bus or train ride to work. You see, many people lose a great deal of time doing nothing while commuting to and from their jobs.
Why not use that time to listen to an audio book, especially one that develops your mind and/or improves your professional and business skills?
For example, listening to an audio book that improves your skills daily can do a lot of good to your career, instead of listening to a musical song which wouldn't help you much in the area of skill acquisition.
6--In the air while traveling - You wouldn't believe it, but there are many people who spend more time in the air than on road. There are professional assignments that involve traveling from one state to the other, or even from one country to the other.
If you are in such a situation, consider the enormous benefits you would get listening to audio books, especially those that can improve your professional or personal skills.
Yes, there are many audio book courses made specifically for professional and personal improvements,
and thousands upon thousands for your own personal enjoyment.
Have fun listening.

worked at home? You don't NEED to work outside of the house to make a good living. Society
has you believing that you do.
Nothing will make you financially secure except for good money managment skills! Your only

A triple scented candle gives you more bang for your buck, scent wise. These candles are scented with high quality perfumed oil or essential oil, with up to three times the concentration of scent as that of most other candles. Before you decide that that's too much scent for you or your home, try a triple scented candle for yourself. Because of the form in which the candle's scent is stored, the scent is subtle even when it's very rich.

5 Low Cost Ways to Generate Traffic To Your Home-Based Business Website
Posted on Jan 21, 2007 at 12:12 PM by Monique Hawkins
If you have a website for your home-based business, you need traffic. Web traffic is of utmost importance for any business. No matter what business model you're following, no matter what your goal is, be it selling a product or service you have, you need a steady stream of targeted traffic.
The truth is, there are numerous ways to generate traffic. The key is to find the most effective yet most affordable strategies based on your budget.
Although it may be easy for big companies with deep pockets to throw cash into a pay per click campaign such as Google Adwords, most home based businesses can?t afford huge pay-per-click campaigns. Yet without targeted traffic no business can survive for long.
One of the great advantages to running an Internet business is that the home-based business owner has many low or no cost choices when it comes to advertising.
Following are five tips that can help increase your rankings in the search engines and gain much needed exposure.
Tip #1: Traffic Exchanges
These are exceptional tools. However, they must be used correctly to get results. Although every niche may not benefit from this particular traffic method, it can be used with great success when dealing with network marketing, affiliate marketing, and other home based business opportunities.
One of the best ways to use traffic exchanges is to create your own separate landing page for the product or opportunity you're promoting. Always try to stand out from the competition unique. You will want to make sure you do this since the best marketer always wins.
By simply enticing other surfers with some free information and using an autoresponder to capture their name and email address, you can quickly build your own opt-in list of interested prospects.
Tip #2: Write a Newsletter
This may seem daunting and overwhelming for some, but it really doesn't have to be. There are hundreds of article directories floating around with articles written by experts in almost every field.
All you have to do is use them within the guidelines prescribed by the directory and author, add a few lines from yourself as an introduction and throw in an ad and you've got yourself a newsletter for your prospects and/or customers.
Tip #3: Write and Submit Your Own Articles
This is another method that can cause some people to view it as very time consuming. But, as the previous point shows, there are many hundreds of article directories out there and literally thousands of web sites, ezines and newsletter publishers looking for new and unique content every day. You are likely one yourself.
By writing your own articles and including a link back to your site you're not only branding yourself as an expert but also creating valuable back links to your site. This is a huge factor when it comes to search engine rankings which bring the best free traffic.
If you feel that this method that will be impossible for you to implement, you can hire a ghostwriter and have them write all the articles for you. You can use a free resource such as Elance.com.
Tip #4: Online Communities and Forums
By joining online forums you can also gain back links to your site by posting comments and using a signature file with your links in it. You can join four or five forums based on your interest or business. If you don?t? know where to find a forum, just do a search on Google and thousands will come up.
Beware, though, that most forums frown on blatant advertising. You have to attempt to add something valuable or beneficial or your posts or you may get banned.
Tip #5: Exchange Links
This can be rather difficult. You must find sites that are in the same niche as yours but not necessarily in direct competition.
You also have to find sites that already have a good ranking in the search engines for this to be effective. There are tools such as the software program SEO Elite that makes this process much easier.
Always approach any site owner with grace and dignity. Be tactful and courteous. Remember, you attract more flies with honey than vinegar.
If you use all of these strategies, you likely will an increase in targeted traffic to your home-based business website.

Starting Your Own Home-based Business
Posted on Jan 21, 2007 at 12:09 PM by Monique Hawkins
It is not difficult to start your own home-based Internet business. Hundreds, if not thousands, of people do it everyday. Keep in mind, however, that while it may be simple to start your own home-based Internet business this does not necessarily mean that you will start to make lots of money right from the start. Starting an Internet home-based business is relatively simple, but making a consistent income with an online business for years to come is another story.
There is no reason to get discouraged though if you do not make money right away with your Internet home-based business. . This is common and typical for most people. In fact, it is common to go through a period or one, or two, or even more years before realizing any consistent financial returns with an online business. Sometimes the amount of competition makes things more difficult. This does not mean that it cannot be done, because it can be done. There are actually thousands of people doing it everyday. Like most other things in life, certain knowledge is needed before success can be achieved.
If you would like to get a quick glimpse of what types of home-based businesses and opportunities are available today, just go and do a simple search on Yahoo, or Google. Search for: home business, online business, or Internet business. You will be returned thousands of listings. The competition is indeed fierce, but there is no need to worry because there are still plenty of opportunities and ways to make a good living.
There is a big difference in picking a business that is easy to start and one that will be successful and profitable. To start, look at opportunities based on your interest. It is not natural for someone to do something if they do not have an interest in it. Obviously, if you do not have an interest in your business you will most likely not spend very much time doing it. Your business will have a very limited chance for success in this situation. It would be more like a hobby. So make sure you choose something you love and are passionate about.
If you are interested in developing your own product, or providing a service, you will first want to find out if there is a demand for that product or service; otherwise known as a niche market. You will also need to research if the market is already saturated with the product or service you are thinking about marketing. Also, carefully analyze your competition, what they are doing, and how you can make yourself unique from them. Failing to do these important steps will result in lots of frustration and likely failure
You can use the tool listed below to determine keyword popularity of specific niches in the market. This will show you the number of monthly searches done on keywords or keyword phrases and therefore help to assess the popularity of a certain item or product. This can provide very valuable information before starting into a product development phase. This tool is free to use and can be found at Overture.com at the address listed below:
http://inventory.overture.com/d/searchinventory/suggestion
This keyword search tool above will only reveal the amount of monthly searches on the keywords or keyword phrases you enter into it. It won?t reveal all the overall competition, but will give some an idea of what people are searching for. You can also type into a search engine your business idea, or web site idea, and see how many web sites are listed. This will also give you a good idea of competition, or popularity.
A large amount of competition in certain areas should not always be considered negative. This could also mean that there is a very strong demand in that product or service area. You will just have to make sure your marketing process stands alone when compared to everyone else.
Some people are interested in product development, such as selling information products, as a home-based business opportunity. However, product development can be difficult and challenging if you do not have a good idea of what to develop or how to go about developing something. This is the very reason that many people do not want to develop their own products. They prefer to sell products that other people have already created. This is called being a reseller if you buy the products directly from the source and then you resell them for a profit. This is just one way that many people make money on the Internet.
Other people become affiliate marketer. An affiliate marketer is when someone sells another person's product or service for a commission payment, which is a pre-determined percentage of the overall sales price. An affiliate can also get paid commissions for providing leads and clicks to a merchant?s web site. Many affiliate marketers make thousands of dollars each month without ever developing their own product. However, once again, that many affiliate are doing the same thing and using the same website. So, it is a must to get creative and do something totally different from everyone else.
There are several advantages to being an affiliate marketer. The immediate benefit is the cost. Many times one can start for free or for a very low cost. Affiliate marketers do not have to worry about the costs involved with developing their own products, bookkeeping, or customer support issues. They also do not have to take care of web site development, hosting, and all the other problem areas associated with web site maintenance. The merchant who you are representing as an affiliate handles all of these details for you. All you need to focus on is getting people to visit the merchant?s web site in order to hopefully buy a product or service from them. When they do make a purchase from the merchants site you get paid the agreed upon commission for the sale.
There are many things to consider when deciding which products or services to represent as an affiliate marketer. Some considerations involve the quality, appeal, and price of the product or service you may want to promote. Others concerns involve the performance history of the merchant. You will not want to promote something you could care less about. It is better to promote a product or service you believe in. When doing your research, find out if the merchant has had a good record of timely affiliate payments, and what type of support system they have in place for their affiliates. It is important to discover these things before you make a determination on what you should promote as an affiliate marketer.
Once you have a good idea of what type of products or services you think are going to be profitable to promote then you will need to sign up to those affiliate programs and start your marketing campaigns. Most good merchants supply their affiliates with tools and materials to assist them with their marketing efforts. It is also advisable for you to do some research on your own to locate some good training material on how to market successfully on the Internet. You should not need to spend very much money, if any, in this area because there are plenty of free resources available on this topic. You will need to spend some time doing research and study in this area if you are serious about building your business.
Research and a lot of reading, consistent effort and determination, and a strong desire to succeed are the primary keys for anyone wanting to build a successful and profitable online business. With determination, the right product and service, and an easy duplicatable marketing system, all who desire to work from home can find success.

Assessing The Personality Profile of Your Home Business Prospects
Posted on Jan 15, 2007 at 08:30 AM by Monique Hawkins
Did you know there are distinct personality profiles that people have? This, of course, also includes the prospects for your network marketing home-based business.
The fact is, as you continue to build your business, it will be critical to understand the different personalities your prospects have. Understanding their profiles can not only have a huge positive impact on your business, but also your life.
Now, on to the four basic personality profiles.
Yellow-The Nurturers
Making up 35% of the population, yellows are involved in occupations such as nursing, teaching, social work, etc. When they give, they give with their whole heart. Usually, they don't have much time for themselves because they are so busy giving to others. Yellows have built very large organizations in network marketing when they have the confidence and belief in themselves that they can!
Working with Yellows
An important thing to remember is that yellows hate being sold to. They can't stand pushy, aggressive salespeople! When you are talking with a yellow, become a nurturer like they are. Slow down and don't be overexcited. If yellows see a lot of hype, they think they are receiving a sales pitch. Whatever you do, don't tell a yellow about earning thousands of dollars a month because this will turn them off.
Instead, just spend time visiting with them. Don't worry about presenting the business. Instead, talk about their families, their kids, and vacations. Yellows will let you know when they are ready to talk shop!
Blues-The Fun Loving
There is only one name for a blue: fun! They like fun and loads of it. Blues make up 15% of the population. They are highly creative people, and usually are involved in a sales business of some kind. They also have a tendency to jump from program to program.
When presenting your business to a blue, they usually can grasp the overall picture very quickly and don't need tons of details.
Working with Blues
When working with a blue, be excited! Talk about all the fun stuff: sailing, scuba diving, bungee jumping, skydiving, etc. You get the picture.
Blues don't mind talking about their family, vacations, and the like. They just love talking about the fun more. So rev up the fun thermometer when talking with a blue prospect for your network marketing home business!
Greens-The Analyzers
Greens are analyzers and make up 35% of the population. They are the types of folks that let business opportunities worth thousands of dollars go by because they analyze things to death.
Working with Greens
Greens think they are the most intelligent people around. In just a few minutes, you will be able to easily tell if you have a green prospect. Why? Because they will want to know everything!
Forget about selling to a green. They have to sell themselves on the home-based business opportunity. Greens will need to check everything out with a fine tooth comb. This includes the website and all the links in it, testimonials, conference calls, articles, etc. As you can see, you will need to be on your toes and have detailed information ready when working with a green.
Another thing to remember about greens is to speak very clearly, be upfront, answer all their questions, and send them to websites.
You do not need to call greens between phone calls. If you do, they likely will be abrupt and see you as pushy salesperson. Greens need to go at their own pace.
What usually happens is that in few weeks, they will call you for more information and to inform you they are ready to start.
Reds-The High Achievers
Reds are money motivated and money focused people. They make up only 15% of the population.
Don't even try to talk to a red about their families, vacations, and other personal issues. They just are not interested in talking about them.
Working with Reds
Reds are focused on the money. They are totally focused on sales and are the corporate CEO types, let's "get the job done now" people. Of course, everyone wants reds in their organizations!
However, its important to keep in mind that reds are not the mentoring and coaching types. Their egos are huge and they order people around. Reds want to do things their way. This type of attitude works well in the CEO world, but not well at all in the network marketing home business world!
So, there you have it. The four types of personalities that you will encounter when you get prospects for your home business. Interact with them based on their profiles, and you likely will see a huge difference in your sign-ups as well as in the activity of your downline.

How to Use Affiliate Programs Plus Smart Marketing With Your Home-Based Business
Posted on Dec 29, 2006 at 05:53 AM by Monique Hawkins
When it comes to working from home, affiliate programs are a great way to make residual income. If the program is good, they allow you to take part in an established system that has already been tested and
built up. The only thing left to do is to take control and build a down line. The combination of using an affiliate program as your home-based business along with smart marketing equals win-win situation.
Many times affiliate programs are misunderstood. In the past, the idea of building a down line and making a residual income recruiting people was called a pyramid scheme. These pyramid schemes didn?t work, as we know now, because they relied solely on recruiting and not at all on selling. The main idea behind them, though, was a good one, so the affiliate program was created. What needs to be understood is that an affiliate program is more than building a down line of people. It also is based on selling real, and hopefully, beneficial as well as useful products. A home-based affiliate program can work well because a person earns money through their down line and through product sales.
The other good thing about home-based affiliate programs is that they are very easy to get started, and in most cases are completely free with no start-up costs. Most programs offer a website and plenty of help and advice on how to get the business going. A person gets help from their sponsor in their up line, too. The biggest challenge, though, is marketing. This is because many people who start a home-based business have no business experience much less any marketing expertise. The good news if that there are a number of books, programs, and mentoring services that can teach everyone how to become a successful marketer.
Marketing involves learning how to use the tools provided by the program to get customers and sign ups for the opportunity. The affiliate program will provide a person with written ads and their own website, among other things. The website is the central hub of all the marketing efforts. The main goal should be to get people to visit the website. Once there the copywriting should be so powerful that not only will people buy products, but also feel called to sign up to be an affiliate. This can be challenging, but it is not impossible with a top-notch marketing system.
Marketing also involves a person taking the ads and other marketing tools and placing them where
people will see them. One of the biggest marketing platforms is search engines. Most affiliate websites are simple websites, but with a little work a person can optimize it to make it rank high on the search engines. A good way to get started is to add a blog to the website and write entries everyday. These entries should be keyword rich and informative. Search engines such as Google, MSN, and Yahoo like articles or blog entries and will assign the site a higher ranking if they have them. Another way to go is to place links and ads on other websites. A person should choose websites that compliment the affiliate program, but that is not in competition with it. By using these marketing methods a person should be able to get a good start in marketing.
Home-based affiliate programs along with good marketing efforts can really help to skyrocket
residual income. Building an affiliate program will take some time, but they are great tools to produce a residual income.

How To Stay Focused When Starting A Home-Based Business
Posted on Dec 29, 2006 at 05:38 AM by Monique Hawkins
So, you finally have taken the big step and decided to start a home-based business. However, it is likely you are still juggling a full time job, a part time job and family life. To be successful, you know that there are many things you need to do in order to start your business right and work from home. With so many commitments, it's easy to become overwhelmed and lose focus. Losing focus results in you taking no action. As we all know, action is essential to moving on from where you are now, to where you want to be.
Here are 5 strategies to stay focused when starting your home-based business:
1. Break things down
If you have a large task to tackle, it is always easier to break it down into specific steps or components. You'll find it easier to focus because you won't feel as overwhelmed. For example, 'Register a business name' can be broken down into: 'Think of five business name ideas', 'Find out how to register business name', 'Get registration form' and so on.
2. Keep a daily 'to do' list
Once you've broken down major tasks into specific steps, make and keep a 'to do' list. In addition, always keep a notepad and pen with you so that you can jot down any new ideas as they arise.
3. Schedule your time wisely
Before retiring for bed, decide on three to five tasks on your 'to do' list that you wish to accomplish the following day. Stay focused on these tasks and only move on to the next tasks on your list once these have been completed.
4. Set goals
Setting goals are a great way to stay focused. Visualize exactly where you want to be in a month, six months and a year. In a month's time, do you want to have registered a business name and get all your equipment set up? In six months time, how many clients do you want? How much revenue do you want to generate in 3 months, 6 months, 9 months, and a year? Writing down your goals on paper and putting them where you can read over them everyday will do wonders in helping you achieve your goals.
5. Be assertive
Learn how to say no. Be assertive and carve out more time for your business project. For example, by saying ?no', if you can, to that extra demand by your boss every once in a while, can get you home one hour earlier a couple of days a week. How about cutting back on the amount of housework that you do? Imagine how you could channel that extra time into your business.
These 5 strategies are just an example of what you can do not only in 2007, but also for all time when it comes to staying focused on your home-based business. If you put these five strategies into practice, you'll definitely find it easier to focus on and achieve your ultimate goal of working from home.

Starting a Home Based Ebay Business Part 2
Posted on Dec 23, 2006 at 07:45 PM by Margaret Dunn
Ebay is a great place for someone to learn how to have a small home based business and for someone who has some "stuff" to sell. Once you have gotten your feet wet so to speak, you may be interested in opening up an Ebay store. This is a great idea around the holidays. What you need to do is visit Ebay yourself and see what people are buying. Ebay will list the best sellers for that week on the home page of their website, but a good rule of thumb is to find something inexpensive, fun, usable, go to Ebay and do a little bit of research. .

10 Steps to a successful website.
Posted on Nov 24, 2006 at 02:33 PM by Paul Guzman
1. Make and develop your own website. Do NOT copy or get websites that have no value.
2. Find your niche. What do you do for a living? What are your interests, your hobbies, your love. Do you like sports? What about working and tinkering with cars/trucks. Do you like skateboarding, gardening, are you a wizard at math, electronics, computers, etc....etc.....
3. Once you have that in mind start writing it down. Yes... take a pen and put it on paper. You will probably have tons of content for your website. This is what people want, and more importantly what "google" and the rest of the search engines are craving for.
4. Find a good webhosting company. Do your best to learn HTML Once you have a good working knowledge of that start with CSS, PHP, and others. The main one is HTML.
5. Find a good graphics program. The two best are Paint shop Pro and Adobe photoshop. PSP is alot cheaper.
6. S.E's love good simple HTML & CSS content. Once you have that start putting your adsense or affiliate links in place.
7. You have probably heard this before but I will say it again. do NOT slap on a bunch of banners, and unrelated links on your page. Stay away from link farms, black hat search optimization tricks and anyone that says "make thousands/millions in 2 months " IT WON'T HAPPEN".
8. Read everything positive! Yes read and acquire the knowledge that will help you get what you want.
9. Here are 2 words that helped me with my successful site: Persistence and Determination.
10. Visit and participate in forums, blogs and websites that have valuable information concerning your niche!
If you need any help please send me an email.

In my attempts at true entrepeneurship, I have just built an online discount shopping store which you can access at http://www.bestdiscountshoppingonline.com My family and I are always looking for the best prices and the best bargains we can find. Every day it gets harder and harder for families to survive without two parents working and when you are a single mom, it is even more difficult. Plus, most mom's just don't have the time. I am trying out a new solution which is not costly and which doesn't take alot of time at all once it is up and running.

Six Reasons Why Many Home-Based Businesses Fail
Posted on Nov 14, 2006 at 05:54 PM by Monique Hawkins
Any given day, thousands of people look to get out of the rat race and work from home. In addition, many people want to get a home-based business started so badly that they do not always make wise choices in choosing a work-from-home business opportunity. As a result, many end up failing miserably. This, of course, does not need to happen. It is possible to pick a viable business opportunity. As discussed in a previous article, there are five top reasons many home-based businesses will never work. Let?s discover six additional reasons why many home businesses will not work.
Reason#1: Most new opportunities have no way to help people make large amounts of money. Many opportunities will give great ideas for making money, but then leave people out in the cold by having them do everything on their own. There simply is not a good support system. Nobody should be a part of a business opportunity such as this.
Reason #2: Unfortunately, some home business opportunity promoters will take people's money and run. There are too many fly-by-night companies out there that will not hesitate to scam people. The problem is their promotions sound just as good as everybody else's. To avoid this, home-based business opportunity seekers need to be very skeptical about each business opportunity they are presented, examine them carefully, and then make an informed decision.
Reason #3: Some home-based business opportunities have people work long hours for little pay. People end up getting burned out, tired, frustrated, and eventually quit. Why become part of a work at home opportunity that is like a regular job?
Reason #4: Many business opportunities offer products nobody wants. Never, ever try to market anything people could care less about. Everyone who tries to do this is doomed to fail. Always remember that the market for your products or services comes first, and the product or service must offer something exciting that people want. In addition, it is best that the company that offers the product or service has a proven marketing system that automatically sells to people the exciting product or service.
Reason #5: Many home-based business opportunities force people to become salespeople. Because things are not set up right, people are forced to face rejection constantly. Avoid this type of business since most people hate to sell!
Reason #6: Most work at home opportunities pay small sums of money and no residual income. This is a recipe for disaster! If people sell low-ticket items that don't sell for very much money, it's going to be almost impossible for them to obtain financial freedom and to become rich. Never become part of any home-based business opportunity that forces one to sell tons of items just to make a decent profit.
So, there you have it-six additional reasons why many home-based businesses will fail. Carefully look for potential problems with any home-based business opportunity, make sure it does not meet the criteria for any of these six problems outlined, and then make an informed choice.

Is Your Home-Based Business Legitimate?
Posted on Nov 14, 2006 at 05:48 PM by Monique Hawkins
Many people are looking to start a home-based business. Go to any Internet search engine, do a search, and you will easily find a yielded of at least 11,800,000 results. This is an incredible and overwhelming amount number to wade through! The sad fact is that many of these so-called Internet home business opportunity vendors represent an opportunity for one person ? themselves. Thousands of people are getting scammed everyday.
While you certainly can find a legitimate and promising Internet home business opportunity on the Web, just how do you tell the wheat from the chaff? How can you make sure you are finding a viable home-based business opportunity that will give you financial freedom? Here are the most commonly asked questions about the legitimacy of business opportunities, and their answers. When researching any work at home opportunity, make sure you have them handy.
The first question, and the one you should certainly ask, is where you can obtain the company?s pre-sale document of disclosure. The U.S. Federal Trade Commission (FTC) requires that a business that offers a franchise or a business opportunity must provide prospective buyers with this document. The FTC doesn?t insist that the firms keep these documents available to the public however, so they?re not generally easy to find. 13 U.S. states do keep the franchise papers on file, while 26 states require anyone with a business opportunity to sell file its disclosure statement. These files are available to anyone who wishes to look at them if an appointment is made to review them or make copies right there at the office where they are stored. In California, the franchise documents are available online. This is a crucial step that all business opportunity seekers need to follow.
What potential Internet home business opportunity buyers want to know almost as often is where they can find out if complaints have been filed about the company, and the details of those complaints. They also want to know, of course, if the complaints have been resolved.
The answer, unfortunately, is there is not a good database, either through a state or federal agency, local municipality or private organization. The FTC as well as the Better Business Bureau keeps track of complaints but it?s quite easy to change business names and locations once complaints stack up. The best protection is the FTC?s franchise rule that requires that firms provide potential buyers with the names, addresses and phone numbers of ten other buyers of this Internet home business opportunity. These must be the ten geographically closest to you. To find a Better Business Bureau near you, you can always do an Internet search or contact your local small business affairs office.
It is imperative for your own investigation into the authenticity and soundness of this Internet home business opportunity that you call these business people and ask them about the firm they bought. What?s important as well is that you visit each business location, even if at their home; keep in mind that
fraudulent business opportunity sellers can line up a number of friends and family to handle calls about their bogus business success. This step may not be possible for most online business opportunities, but would work better for those looking at local business opportunities.
Under the U.S. Freedom of Information Act any person who requests it is entitled to any information on the potential Internet home business opportunity that the FTC has on file.
Another resource is the Business Franchise Guide, found often in law libraries. This discloses the guidelines of each state and the U.S. federal government on franchisers and business opportunity vendors.
As you can see, there are resources to use when investigating a home-based business opportunity. Use them to find a viable and legitimate opportunity that will work best for you.

Why Marketing Is Important for Your Home-Based Business
Posted on Nov 5, 2006 at 11:52 AM by Monique Hawkins
More than most other online businesses, a home based Internet marketing business requires experience and training. Many people experience failure in internet marketing because they are not trained to market their business. In the marketing world, the best marketer always wins. So, it is important to get adequate training or at least be part of a program that provides excellent marketing training that is duplicatable.
There are some online home businesses, such as medical transcription, data entry, word processing and virtual call centers that you can start with some very basic skills and a short bit of initial training. A home based Internet marketing business is not one of these. While it?s not essential that you have a four year degree in marketing to succeed you must have some experience in marketing.
If you?ve been a marketing specialist for another firm or acted in a management capacity that required you to practice some marketing job tasks, then you probably have a good feel for what marketing is all about. Now you just need some classes. For that you can go online if you prefer that to classroom learning. The four hour course about Internet advertising is the kick off course for your home based Internet marketing business training. Here you?ll get a good overview of the various advertising options for your client when he or she markets on the Internet. The course objectives are to train you to promote your clients? business on the Web, to plan the firm?s advertising campaign, to find your own customers, to compare the pros and cons of the various forms of advertising for your clients and to learn where Internet advertising is headed.
Building marketing strategy is one of the more essential courses for your home based Internet marketing business. In this online class you?ll learn a complex overview of the various marketing tools and options for your clients? online business as well as your own. You?ll learn about outside promotion and data mining. Specific training includes identification of effective promotion in a face to face environment and a description of the relationship between e-commerce and public relations. In the five hour course you?ll also find out what niche marketing is all about and how it can help your client and your own home based Internet marketing business.
The E-business development course gets down to the basics. You?ll learn what a virtual corporation is, what business and marketing tasks you and your clients can and should outsource, understand partnership pros and cons, and look at the problems that can occur in an online business.

Bookkeeping Made Simple for Your Home-Based Business
Posted on Oct 5, 2006 at 08:04 PM by Monique Hawkins
For many people, bookkeeping can be a daunting task. For some, it is a living nightmare! Most people who can?t stand accounting and math hire a bookkeeper. Of course, this isn?t for free! A fee is always attached to the service. The truth is, bookkeeping does not have to be difficult. It can be simple! Let? s discover how.
In starting or managing a home-based business, bookkeeping is one important activity you should not forget about. Bookkeeping, when you really think about it, is very simple. There's nothing more to it than recording your daily financial activities, like the money you earned and the money you spent. It is similar to balancing a checkbook.
Accurate record keeping is crucial for your home business.. If you maintain good bookkeeping of your business, then you are sure to accurately monitor your income against your expenses. You can see outright if you are getting some profit or not. Here are some easy steps to handle the bookkeeping of your home-based business easily.
1. Open a business checking account. Go to your local bank and open an account under your business name. Sign the necessary papers and get the account registration card together with your account information. Get your imprinted checks as well.
2. Get a columnar notebook or a simple notebook. Begin writing down your daily income and expenses. Start each summary with the current date. It would be best if you start from the day you first opened for business.
3. Make two columns, one for income and one for expenses. Then record your income for the day on one side, and your expenses on the other. Total everything at the end of the each column. You can also put the difference of the two columns, label it profit, investment, or however you intend to save or use the money.
4. Accurately maintain a daily, monthly, and yearly log. Just continue compiling this information. At the end of the month, summarize all your earnings. Do the same at the end of the year. This is going to be a good basis for inventory too; as well as for tax purposes.
Of course, there are computer programs that can easily do this for you. If, however, you are one who likes to crank out things by hand, this is perfect for you!
This is all it takes to do bookkeeping. It really is simple! It doesn't take to be a math wizard or an accounting major to do these simple steps. You can also read more on some bookkeeping materials or enlist in a bookkeeping correspondence. Once you start, you will easily be able to keep up. Your home-based business will now be on the right track!
