Increasing numbers of Americans need some sort of affordable health care. Whilst increased premiums are part of the reason, many employers are reducing the level of cover due to budgetary cutbacks. Before this year, I had great health care with my company but it has reduced this year so I know this is the reason. Suddenly, my employer announced it was getting too expensive and was switching health care providers.

To make the system fair to everyone, the health care provider would need to change. I suppose some people are better off and perhaps I shouldn't sound ungrateful. I don't mind other workers benefiting but it costs me more now, almost twice as much more to have my family covered in the plan. Taking a good deal less home in my paycheck to have my family remain on the healthcare policy seems to be the only option I have because almost everyone else is happy with the new arrangement.

I liked the previous company and so far I am not as impressed with the new one although the health care plan doesn't seem that bad. Many of us aren't happy with the additional out of pocket expenses and less in our paychecks because of our employer's pursuit of an affordable health care company. I am sure of this because just over 2 years ago when I had my little boy, the stay in hospital was completely covered by my insurance policy. Working out that same stay with the new plan would mean approximately 4,000 dollars would have to be paid by me.

You also have to bear in mind that this additional expense is just the hospital bill and doesn't include the additional work fees I must now pay. There is obviously a market for these schemes because more and more affordable health care options are becoming available. Options now exist for people that are not supplied with a health provision where they work, and now single mothers have access to plans which they can join; some people can even have free health care. I applaud the set up of these programs but not enough is done to stop those that wish to take advantage and ruin it for others.

I feel sorry for those in genuine need of affordable health care who must look around and see others who are just sponges on the system: a financial burden to the state. Although I say they can be a burden to the state, I really mean a burden to its citizens because it is the tax payer who foots the bill. Financially speaking, my company saw the real advantage to this switch and some of the employees. However, their money saving technique wasn't good news to employees because suddenly we were making up for their cost cutting endeavor - by seeing less money in our paychecks. We have a responsibility here in America to providing some sort of affordable health care for those that need it most.
