I understand the value of having a list. Building a list. Nurturing a list.
And, last - but certainly not least - MAKING MONEY FROM THAT LIST... :-)
But here's what REALLY ticks me off....
When I am already a member of a list - let's call it GENERAL for those prone to programming or technical list-building. I have a position in that list. Let's call that position G63.
When I do guru-x the favour of visiting his new page announcing a brand-new booklet on subject-y, why should I have to re-enter my data when all that could have been done was a quick look-up of my name and e-mail based on my position on list GENERAL - in our "case" G63?
I could have been [read: "could have been" as "should have been" if you are a real PRO] sent to a page CREATED ESPECIALLY for members of that GENERAL list. When G63 is a known position, all that would be needed was a confirmation that I also wanted to be a part of the new list.
Why I must make an effort to confirm an e-mail address that has already been confirmed by this person is a total oxymoron when that same guru-x claims to live from building and nurturing lists.
This type of error in nurturing one's lists isn't something only one guru makes mistakes in doing. It seems to be a general problem that some of these guys are simply too busy announcing new endeavours that they totally forget that some things are not handled in the most professional of ways.
If I had written this in an e-mail to some techie, I would have been denounced as a noise-maker. Which just makes me want to make EVEN MORE NOISE when some people simply don't get it.
If YOU live from lists, don't make the mistake some of the big guys are doing. Chances are people will be p*ssed a lot SOONER than some of these big guys THINK they can get away with........
But the question is: CAN THEY? Will they?
Will you stand up against this list-building craze-mania? Especially when it is being done in such an amateurish way?
Treat one another with mutual respect and dignity is my best advice in building lists.... Listen gurus, out there! :-)

Hi Henrik
I think it's all about niches.
Guru X has this list about making money on the Internet. Now he's offering you this big zz-thing about making money on the Internet for people with two dogs. So he wants you to join his list of people with two dogs, so he's sort of a niche there.
See?
Want to get on my list about business people using their intuition? Soon I'll split it into small business owner women using their intuition ;-) And there you will not stand a change!
Love
Britt
