Ebay is a great place for someone who has some "stuff" to sell. Once you have gotten your feet wet so to speak, you may be interested in opening up an Ebay store. This is a great idea around the holidays. What you need to do is visit Ebay yourself and see what people are buying. Ebay will list the best sellers for that week on the home page of their website, but a good rule of thumb is to find something inexpensive, fun, usable, go to Ebay and do a little bit of research. . .
You do Ebay research by setting up an account and placing a check mark in the section that says, "completed listings". That's a secret not too many ebayers know. The completed listings show up in green. Green auctions are the ones that have sold. That will give you an idea of what is selling and what is not.
DO NOT go out and buy all kinds of stuff to sell on Ebay BEFORE doing your homework. If you do decide to bring home lots of things, make sure you know the return policies of the stores you purchased from. You won't want your home to turn into an instant warehouse with things that just aren't selling.
Start small. Buy a few items to build your star count. You will want to make sure that you pay quickly (using paypal is a great way to pay), and you will want to leave good feedback for the person who sold you the item as well.
Look around your home. Get a decent digital camera so you can take pics of your items. Keep the background around the item plain, ie. set your item on a solid colored cloth or white or black paper background so your item shows up. Take several pictures and choose which one is the best to upload. Your first pic is free. You can copy and paste other pics into your description too and that doesn't cost anything either.
There are Ebay fees. I'll discuss those next time. Thanks for reading my blog and feel free to visit my store. It's kind of empty right now since it's after Christmas, but it will still give you an idea of what a basic store looks like. Click here to go to my Ebay store.
