One of the fastest growing social websites is Twitter.com. Twitter.com is free for anyone to join and allows you to create a "micro-blog" of updates on what you are doing. Twitterers tweet their posts in 140 characters or less.
Twitterers follow each other getting a large number of followers is a goal that many Twitterers have.

I have written before about online fundraising for nonprofit organizations using the social media. The term "social media" refers to websites that allow people to freely communicate and interact with each other. These are websites such as MySpace, Facebook, Squidoo and Twitter. These types of websites bring together people who share common interests and allow them to form communities online. Nonprofit organizations can use the social media for fundraising by interacting and communicating with people who support their organization.

The current economic downturn in the United States is beginning to have a negative impact on charities and fundraising. Most charities are bracing for a drop in donations in the coming months.

Fair Trade Fundraisers - Win-Win Fundraising
Perhaps you have never heard of the term "fair trade." These exports are organic products such as coffee, tea, cocoa, honey, sugar, bananas, cotton, wine, fresh fruit and flowers. Handcrafted items from artisans such as clothing, jewelry and decorative household items are also among the fair trade products.

The nation's largest single-day food drive is this Saturday, May 10th. The United States Postal Service and the National Association of Letter Carriers is conducting their annual Stamp out Hunger food drive. You can very easily participate simply by leaving a non-perishable food item in or by your mailbox.

This is the 14th year of the food drive. Since 1993 more than three-quarters of a billion pounds of food have been collected and distributed to food banks throughout the United States. 35 million people are estimated to be at risk of hunger in the United States, including 12 million children. When you donate food the letter carriers will pick it up on their delivery routes and it will ultimately be delivered to one of the foodbanks or shelters in your community.

Oftentimes the wreaths that are made by non-profit groups have a very competitive price and are of excellent quality. Ask your friends to make a lens too.
I am of the opinion that there are more internet marketers using Squidoo lenses than there are charities and nonprofit organizations. That is because a Squidoo lens is a good way to build links and bring traffic to a website. I hope that more individuals and nonprofit organizations find out about Squidoo.com and start using it for charitable purposes.

When it comes to fund raising it’s often hard to know what is the most profitable approach. Regardless what you are fundraising for it is important not to overlook the benefits of doing some online fund raising.
For starters, fundraising online allows you to reach more people. Email is a great method of contacting supporters including family and friends from different geographic locations in addition to those close at home.
Just think of how many more fundraising dollars you could bring in if you could reach potential supporters from coast to coast and not just rely on dollars collected at arms length?

How to find Volunteers for Your Nonprofit Fundraiser

Many nonprofit organizations, groups, clubs, or teams take a break during the summer. For example, school teams and organizations, wind up their programs at the end of each year school. For some organizations, such as summer teams or summer youth programs, this is the beginning of a busy time. Other nonprofits are operating year-round. One thing that is common to all nonprofits is the need to find and train volunteers. Many organizations elect a new board of directors around this time of year and need to start looking for volunteers to fill positions that will be opening up in the fall.

There are also methods you can use year-round for fundraising. No doubt you have seen donation boxes and jars placed near the cash registers at convenience stores, grocery stores, hair salons and other businesses in your community. Fundraising with Small Prize Raffles

My last post was about fundraising for your group with big ticket prize raffles. Raffling off big ticket items, such as a Harley Davidson motorcycle, luxury car, or even a house, can raise tens of thousands of dollars. This type of raffle usually takes months of work from a team of people helping to get the prizes, print and sell tickets, place advertising, keep the books, and so on. It is a lot of effort and might not be suitable for the fundraising needs of your organization.

A great way to fundraise for your organization, school, or cause is to join a computer printer ink cartridge recycling program. This works very well for large organizations such as schools. Over the course of a school year a surprising amount of ink cartridges from printers and fax machines and toner cartridges from copy machines can be collected and turned in for cash.

A relatively easy way to raise money for your cause or organization is to collect and recycle used cellphones. Chances are you have a few old cellular phones laying around your house. I know I have a stash of them. I've never thrown away any of my old cellphones. I still have the first one my family got back in 1997. Every year millions of cellphones are thrown away which is not good for the environment. Cell phones fill up the landfills and contain toxic materials such as lead, cadmium, mercury and materials that can degrade into arsenic.

Scratchers, Peelers, what the heck are those? Thats what I wondered the first time I heard of them.
Peelers are fundraising cards that provide discounts at local businesses. The wallet-size cards feature mini coupons that the business peels off when they are redeemed. Peeler cards can offer discounts from just one merchant or they can offer discounts from a variety of local merchants. Pizza peelers are available from just about every national pizza franchise, so you should be able to sell pizza peelers in your community quite easily. Most pizza peelers sell for $10.00 with your organization keeping $5.00 or 50 percent of the profit.
