Are you a mother that is a career woman? If you are, you most likely know that challenge of trying to balance motherhood with the obligations of the conference room. While being a mother and an accomplished career woman can be very rewarding, it can also be the source of much stress and some guilt. You can be successful at both, but at times the task can be a little overwhelming.

You will many times be facing a decision as to whether you should be spending the time with your family or with finish that project. The decisions you are make are not only getting to please everyone, but that is part of being a mother with a career. There will be times you will miss out on family events in order to keep your employer happy and there will be times you will have hope that your employer will understand you delaying work to spend time with your family.

Try to set working hours and stick to them. Let both your employer and your family know what hours you will be working so you schedule your personal life around your working life. If you have to work overtime to keep your job, it is recommended that you do it. You will have to try to schedule some quality time with your family or special family outing when you are done with the overtime.

Besides scheduling work time, you should schedule family time. Do something special when you are off even if it is only something as simple as going to the park. I have worked with many people that set Sunday aside as there family day. You will also want to set aside time for your spouse. I have seen many people that run successful business and the biggest part of their success is effective time management. Not only did they schedule their business time, they scheduled their family time also.

You may want to consider hiring some outside help. Besides work and family there is also housekeeping, grocery shopping and errands. If you are not able to fit all of these tasks into your schedule, you may choose to hire someone to help you complete these tasks.

Another important part of balance is being able to leave work at work and home at home. You will function more efficiently if you concentrate on work while you are there and family while you are with them.

Nobody is saying being a career woman and a mother is easy, but it can be done. Your biggest ally is going to be smart time management. This will help you run an efficient home and career that you can be proud of. Be flexible and make adjustments in your schedule as events warrant and you will be both successful mother and successful career woman.
